They most certainly did and they even used to manage their own servers though completion was horrid towards then end when the volume started going crazy. And yes, internode does have full binaries with up to 1300days retention...except UFC content which doesn't even last a day like most other providers.

Ditto. Good completion, but it also has pre-paid, too, which I find much more convenient for me. I'm not a rampant, got-a-dedicated-PC-just-for-Usenet downloaded, so I don't have to feel guilty about "shit, I paid for it this month and didn't use anything! Crap!"

Another reason to stick with them is that they don't corrupt blocks (or remove entirely) to bend over to DMCA requests.

Not true in the least.

Do a quick search for WB's recent proactive take downs for anything Batman (Begins and TDK) realted. Affected Giganews, Astraweb, Highwinds etc etc.

That said, it's the only ever forcably corrupted file due to a take down I've come across on Astraweb* in my ~3 years and XXs of TB of using them.

*I've had a few (under 25) corrupted movies before that I've written off to shit retention or crap NZB files, but none I've had proof were taken down/targetted corruption.

Fair enough, hadn't noticed any news on WB protecting their interests more than usual.

HBO was specifically targeting a very popular tv series for a while. Probably still are. In any case, it was reported that the files were being damaged, not taken down and only users on giganews and highwinds accounts were mentioning it. Astraweb was reportedly fine.

I remember the pipe days where it was free quota only thing is half the downloads never worked, that was only time I can think of ISP offering any sort of binary usernet, apart from internode

Most ISPs have news servers, none of them offer any sort of binary support so they are pointless
I tap the 'free' 3 connections I get from Adam in addition to the 20 from Astra and it all chugs along together quite nicely (not that it really matters... 20 is enough to max out 100Mbps anyway) - so I can only assume they're just reselling Astra/Giga/similar.

I use Fastusenet for my binary service (35GB for $6 a month), and I use Sabnzbd to download. I like Sabnzbd because I can monitor it over my network no matter which computer I am using. For actual news reading, I use Gravity 3.0
