ey, I'm wondering, any owners with Australian C1 purchased TF 201's and Docks, get SOD since .21 and bad Screen tearing with .28?
Im in the process of collecting all the tools to downgrade this piece of shit back to .15 since my device whent from wonderful to terrible since the past two updates. If my problem stops, I'm unlocking the fucker (or fotaKill for ICS instead) and flashing something based on .15 that doesn't receive OTAs... and well if not I will prep for RA to Asus port melbourne (not unlocking obv) -_- I've done a fair amount of reading constantly since .21 and have found some people claiming their SOD problems persisted after downgrading they had to unlock and format then re apply an old build to fix it, as for screen tearing. I'm aware that ultimately its a 3D clock issue and the older builds can still experience it, I'll be seeing how significant the downgrade returns the unit back to a healthy state if at all, if others have had to do it though, let me know. Just wondering if anybody else are getting the same problems with their primes or is it simple my unit? :/ Im not bothering with XDA either since their TF prime threads are full of derpy bitches.

I've been contemplating an RMA or rooting and flashing CM9 but from what I've read most people seem to think these I/O issues are probably a hardware design fault that won't be able to be resolved with a software update.

Well to be honest, My unit came with HC, I've applied all the OTAs.
I wasnt on honeycomb for very long, and the I/O was always noticeable, although for my tab, the I/O on earlier the ICS versions was tolerable, it has gotten way worse and .21 introduced instability. (general/power draining and GPU instability) The I/O peformence worsened so badly that I had to remove all apps that poll the storage (Video players/Antivirus). on up to .15 I was able to have a bunch loaded and the I/O gripes were nothing significant. Fortunately you can downgrade without the need to Unlock or even root. It is risky, but since my device was quite decent (stable, problem free) prior to .21 Im willing to take that risk. I dont like the idea of RA, and I'm not referring to downtime since my tablet is useless as-is on .28 right now, I'm referring to there's no assurance that asus would treat the unit as gently as I do, these things are fragile, theres been quite a high number of occurrences where somebodys RA'd theirs and gotten it back smashed up as C.I.D (never took photos before RA, and all sorts of paranoia inducing shit you can read about for these units) As for I/O, it can't really be fixed with software, I don't trust anything newer which may improve it (soooo unlikely) to where it performs better then it did on early ICS, would be worth the wait given the introduction of SOD being pretty much ignored and the really poor gpu stability too. The ridiculous part of it all is the inconsistency, update fixes some, breaks others and no ability to deny ota if you wish to keep your warranty is aggravating.----- I had the tools prepared for a few hours, finally decided to push and flash the blob. so far so good. I can't wait to be back on .15, I'll be loading on SPB Shell 3D and playing some Robotek for a few days while ignoring the OTA prompts. If i'm happy, I'll flip asus FOTA's the bird and start looking at a stock .15 with FOTAKill cooked in ![]() ---- Back on .15 WW Now, seems to be running fantastic.
My unit is a C10K serial model. If .21 & .28 hasn't done damage, I should be saying bon voyage to Screen flickers/SODS/FC's/ANRs/Screen tearing/generally dreadful unstable behavior, Like it was pre.21 for me. Fingers motherfucking crossed.

After a full days use, I am very happy to say the downgrade has brought my tablet a significant level of stability back.
Unfortunately, it seems some damage has been done to the GPU thanks to the newer FOTAs. My tablet still gets full screen flickers in circumstances where it would trigger screen tearing (on .21 and .28). Since the damage seems to be just flickering now (when replicated) Im not planning to RA the unit now... Overall though, I can now run apps for hours where they would FC after 30~ minutes on .21 or .28, performance is a lot better. Most importantly screen tear problems are gone and I can finally use the tablet confidently.. not having to worry about frequent ANRs/reboots etc.. edit: Oh and no SODs all day without needing to use wifi sleep workaround bullshit (yay) Afireinside - I recommend you consider downgrading it with (then root and block otas/freeze dmclient) a blob and seeing how yours fairs (especially if its a C10KASxxxx serial model) before you unlock the tablet. The battery life remains awesome on .11 to .15 ICS Asus - fuck you and your shithouse firmware quality control.

I'm not 100% convinced I want it after hearing no flash support, I don't really fancy hacking in flash support either.

Just the stock browser. Found firefox and chrome not much better too. Not as many force closes but very slow. Prefer stock over chrome for flash anyway

I've found a aggressive rebooting after firmware update seems to fix most issues.
I reboot, install the firmware, once up and running, reboot twice more, then do a hard boot with the pinhole. I find the first battery will still go quick, but after that the tablet runs smooth (other then some screen tearing since .28) and battery lasts forever! I last charged my tablet last week Wednesday. I have used it at work for 2 full days with a excel spreadsheet open (functions running each time i added details). watched a movie. Left alone over the weekend. Checked email and browsed a bit over the last few days, watched another movie last night. Battery: 60% Dock, 88% Tablet. Love it. |
