I will keep looking and you guys have given me good leads

Cheers

Goldwave?

Already mentioned, but what you describe sounds like FruityLoops.

I used to use Scream Tracker to create S3M files. More channels and more instruments than MOD.

Magix Music Maker, if i recall correct.
Also there was one called 'Fast Tracker' for making .mod files.
FL Studio (formerly known as FruityLoops)

these are the ones I recall.

Edit: seems these have been mentioned earlier in the thread :/

Cool Edit Pro (is now Adobe Audition)
"Adobe Systems Incorporated acquired the technology assets of Syntrillium Software in May 2003 and introduced Adobe Audition software (a rebranded release of Cool Edit Pro) in August 2003."

I had a look at fruity loops and it's great.

however I think I may have lead you guys down the wrong path a little.
Please forgive my lack of music / track knowledge.

I'll clarify what I mean.

The software that I used had "pre done" music samples, and all I had to do was arrange them in an order that I thought sounded right to me.

Using fruity loops as an example, I see that fruity loops allows you to make up a sample e.g. a string or guitar sample. The software I'm, talking about had pre done samples such as guitar or strings.

I appreciate the effort you guys have put into this. It has brought many memories back for me as well.

Right - did it allow you to hold the shift key down to lock the sample so it kept looping? And then you'd trigger the other keys to do a single pass of the loop?

And it had two 'decks' that you could assign 8(?) samples to each? - and then you could trigger them using keyboard keys?

And was one of the samples "give me the sunshine!"

I'm so sure we're talking about the same thing, I just can't remember what on earth it was called.

I'm sorry but I cannot remember that much detail.

Starting this thread has brought some of the memories back, but to answer your questions, I just don't remember.

Cheers

This sounds like it would match the OP description the best, as I used to use it back in the days...

My same thoughts. I'm sure this is what you are thinking of. heaps of beats/vocals/riffs/scratches etc in different coloured rectangles that you would drag & drop onto an eight track sorta layout iirc. saved into .WAV I think. I had Hiphop Ejay, Techno Ejay, Dance Ejay & some extra sample addons all purchased from HarveyNorman for around $90... was around 2000. I found some of my old tracks back up on CDs a long while ago.. I still have the disks somewhere
