Default RAM upgrade: 18GB limitation (win 7 home premium))

Hi all,

i'm thinking to add more ram to my current built:
intel 920 with Asus P6t-SE
currently it has 6GB 1066mhz RAM (3x2GB) running triple channel

now in my understanding, windows 7 Home Premium will not be able to support more than 18GB RAM

and so i would like to get your opinion on which RAM setup should i go with?
1. get another 3x2GB 1066mhz (to make total 12GB)

2. Replace with 12GB 1333mhz (triple channel)
http://www.scorptec.com.au/computer/...cz3g1333lv12gk

3. Replace with 20GB 1600mhz (5x4GB)
http://www.scorptec.com.au/computer/...600c9d3k6/24gx

my concerns is more on performance from:
(i) the move from 1066mhz to 1600 will make any difference.
(ii) triple channel 12GB (6x2GB) vs 24GB (5x4GB)

I will be using this primarily for Photoshop

thank you all

1333 is where you will see a good difference, anything after that the jump from your 1000 won't be as noticeable.

G'day

Limit is actually 16GB for professional 7 X64 unless you upgrade to a higher version in which case it then becomes 192GB.

Actually the limit is
Windows 7 home premium 16Gb
Windows 7 Professional 196Gb.

Home premium is going to be limiting. You will have to upgrade the OS or hack it to get more than 16gb.

DONT MIX OLD N NEW RAM, GET COMPLETE NEW KIT

get ram that 1.5v not older 1.65(for use in newer boards)

get 1600 as will

you ran ram on that board as 2 sticks (dual channel) 3 or 6 sticks (tri channel)

http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?...ducts_id=16020

Corsair Vengeance CMZ12GX3M3A1600C9 12GB (3x4GB) DDR3

$105.00

get 2 for 24g

so your looking for 3 sticks or 6 at 1.5volts at 1600 10-10-10-30 or so

dont get 1.65v ram(old stuff)
+ some older mboards dont like 1.25v ram(to low to set in bios)

looks like scorptec only stock old models or tripple ram kits.

you can use dual/quad channel kits in board..(keep it 1.5v xms 1.2-1.3)
for dual kit you need 3 kits(6 sticks), or buy quad kit + does use 1 stick(3 only)

3 kits will work in your board (cosair too).. mst be same ver number(all ram must be same, from same batch etc)
(sometime ram look the same but chips on it are from different maker(happens offen at msy stock - gskill)

G.Skill F3-12800CL9D-8GBXL 8GB Kit (2x4GB) 1600Mhz DDR3 - $59.00
