Yeah, I am familiar with those Primo grills from reading about them on the internet Obviously never seen one up close, but IMO the oval shape would be a major advantage. Everything big I can think of isn't round ... e.g big turkeys, big cuts of pork, etc. If they have a nice range of accessories - I say go for it!

Just to give you idea of the charcoal lumps I am getting out of the Kamado Joe bag.

The generic bag I bought from BBQ galore produced coal about 1/3 or 1/4 of the size. I also find the Kamado coal to get to temperature faster and burn hotter.

I find the middle has bigger lumps as the top and bottom (as well as sides) cushion the middle portion and they crumble first!

They were right up the very top. Probably within the first 5 grabbed out of the bag.

I haven't gotten to the middle of the bag yet so not sure of the size in the middle yet.

http://www.primogrills.com.au it looks to be from the USA.

I was speaking with the guy at the stand and they tell me they don't have distribution yet as they have just started to import them and are just selling them at shows.. They have a big stamp on the inside of the lid that reads "Made in USA".

They are very heavy units and the lids on the XL take some strength to open.

The other big point of difference is they come in an oval shape as well as the traditional round.

With the oval shape, there are 2 sizes, an XL and Jr. See the website for more details.. They have an inner ceramic bowl for the charcoal and you can use the racks at about 3 levels inside the unit.. They are quite big and would easily cook a large roast or two, or three.. They also have a firebox divider accessory to reduce the amount of fuel you use.. The other good thing was they have 2 split ceramic heat deflectors plates that go on a lower rack level if you don't want direct heat on the cooking racks directly above..

They had lots of Accessories and even come with a choice of tables... They look very good.. One thing I did notice, was the temp gauges looked loose on a few of the models on display, but on closer inspection, there was a bolt that just needed to be tightened on the inside of the very heavy lids.

I got the guys name as he looks to be based up the sunshine coast and said he is happy to sell them direct until they get a dealer network setup.

P.S. They also look to import there own brand charcoal from the USA and fire lighter. They are on the website also..
The "guy" you are referring to is Casey.
I recently purchased their kamado and as dilivered earlier this week.
Yes, I did get their "imported coal" bag and fire lighter.
Haven't started cooking yet, so please wai for some reviews and possibly photos from myself

For those Kamado charcoal cookers in Sydney a great supplier for natural lump charcoal with an awesome taste (Mangrove) is in Yagoona or buy direct from Mt Druitt. Details: http://www.emberpak.com/

I bought 2 ~20kg bags for $50. The average size of the charcoal is amazing, since it's all manufactured in NSW and not shipped very far!

So I'm looking at one of these for spring. What is the consensus on the better but not stupid model (Komodo Kamado... I like you, but thats a lot of coin and 250kg!@!#!) to get, along with "must have" accessories.

Looking for one for spring/late winter.

Aussie BBQ forums have a great market summary of all the different models, they range from $650-$3000 but most are in the ballpark of $650-1600

I would suggest the pinnacle warehouse one, it's cheap, comes with all the accessories and there is berry little quality difference between that one and the $1600 ones.

The only other 2 that stand out as completely different is the oval jr and the big steel keg. They are both worth looking at

I have a Kamado Joe. Very happy with it, and outstanding customer service.

BUT ... if I were to do it again, I would get a Primo. Why - because it is oval. It just makes more sense.

Yes I have the grill expander. Not sure what the cost price was ... about $120 perhaps? I got mine cheaper because I negotiated a whole bunch of accessories with my KJ.

It appears Pinnacle don't sell kamados anymore

At least, there's nothing on the website.

Has anyone bought one of the $589 Costco Vision kamados?

Just spoke to the Pinnacle people - they no longer sell kamados

There's a "Bear Grill" one on eBay that looks reasonable for $799 .. anyone here bought one and happy with it?
