Been following your worklog from the very start, when you asked for 'our' opinions, I just had to finally say something!

Brilliant work, been subbed for a while. Great to see how this is turning out, +1 on the sandwhich between wood to clamp the acrylic.

Saate,

looking forward to the next installment, being new to watercooling myself I love reading other first time experience and complete custom modding that's were you get the problems and creative solutions, anyone with the money can buy a big case (caselabs) and fit whatever in it without problems, smaller complete custom builds and unique builds like yours are way more interesting, don't get me wrong love caselabs but they are for nerd porn not learning.

Keep it up mate

Brian

Messed with copper myself a lot, and i tell you what, getting yourself a nice blow torch, and a big jug/container of water makes copper easy to work with.

Get your section that you want to bend to red heat, and then dump it in the water.

It gets covered in some black crap thats easy to remove, but the copper turns a bright pink, which is perfectly soft easy to work with copper.

Bend, polish, win! It becomes so easy to bend that you can make adjustments to the angle with your hands.

Once its clean and polished, buy a can of copper varnish, and spray it lightly on the copper. It then retains its beautiful colour forever.

Thanks mate, have picked up a blowtorch on the weekend just in case! Although the bender I borrowed recently is turning out perfect unrippled bends so looks like (hopefully) I’ll avoid having to anneal the bends which will save me a lot of time.

Thanks mate, and definitely agree! Years ago I bought a high-spec machine with a Thermaltake sword case, spent a pretty penny on it at the time. It was cool, but I didn’t ‘own’ it in my head – I hadnt put it together and I felt powerless to change much with it. The cable management was attrocious, stuff wasn’t the right length and it was crowded. It never felt right to me – and that’s a big reason I decided that with this build everything had to feel ‘right’.

One of the trickiest things so far has been deciding what my limits are, and the more I research and learn about stuff the more those limits feel like they’re expanding. Early on in the build I had a panic moment and thought metalwork was beyond me and that I’d just go air cooled. Then once I’d made the first cuts I was certain that copper pipe was too advanced for me. It’s always something, but thanks to the encouragement and advice that’s come with the worklog it’s been a journey of learning and progress

UPDATE – More reservoir mount concepts

Thought I’d post up the last round of acrylic work to show what I’ve been experimenting with. I bought a Dremel Trio over the weekend, looking forward to unboxing it and using it for cleaner work I’ve been very unimpressed with the stock reservoir mounts and after having a few of the Phobya ones break I’m determined to create my own ones instead.

Designs printed onto A4 sticker and applied to acrylic:

In three colours:

Pieces drilled to fit scroll saw blade through:

Scrollin' Scrollin' Scrollin':

Insides finished:

Girlfriend took this, busted me working on the build when I was supposed to writing a uni paper. Good shot of how cluttered up my little setup is though, will get around to organising it soon!

Clamped the pieces together to sand for sizing:

Fits perfect:

Unfortunately that’s as far as I got, but will clean them up and see how they look later this week.

Not much to update with this week guys, second GPU block arrived and was applied:

The cards together:

Then I went and bought a few things including the Dremel Trio!

Good investments (I thought!) although my girlfriend had a slightly different perspective on the spending

Thought you might like that Yeah the torch was $30 or something like that, pretty cheap, will be useful for annealing (if I need to) copper and although I've yet to do it I've read it's a great way to finish acrylic edges.

Five months into the worklog and it's a slow week, pretty sure official ruling is that it's allowed
