I use WMP on my PC pointing to my media library on my raid, then have 1Gb Ethernet connected to the PS3 streams everything fine the only Codec the PS3 can't do is some .MKV files so i use handbrake to convert to .mp4

There are other ways but i find this works best/easiest for me.

Hi,

Why not look at something like a WD tv live + external HDD? you can then transfer what tv you want to the external via the WD or via the PC and then it can run standalone. Gives you many more codec options as well. Its pretty small and uses almost no power at all.

errr...........I considered a WD live. I was debating between them, but for a little more money, I got a PS3 which offers more options than a WD Live. And if I got the WD live, I would've had to keep a PC up and running for gaming.

Hi,

The PS3 doesnt support h.264/x.264 .mkv or other formats that are more common in HD content though?

I don't watch much HD content anyway. Don't get enough download usage

Any other HD content I've been watching is on Blu Rays

certified spouse proof too.
I have ps3 media server on a pc and a HP micro server.
she can tell the difference of either streamer.

ps3 media server will tell what bandwidth is streaming as well.
can setup Internode streaming radio links, can also get the Playboy channel from Germany as well

Still doesn't make newer mkv any more compatible.

If you can play a give file on your PC's own media player, it will play with PMS. That's all that matters since it's going to be converted to MPEG2 for transmission to the PS3 anyway.

Nope, certain mkv containers are still not compatible even after transcoding and they definitely work on my local computer.

The worst thing though is cinavia...
