Hi guys,
I'm looking to replace my 5 years old HDD. Can someone recommend on a good HDD - anything that has new tech into it. 1TB would be good. Needs to be silent and fast as it can be for silent HDDs. My budget is just about $100. Thanks. Gil. |

whats your system, curr hdd model...
ide sata 1 or 2 what you pc being used for hdd from 5 years ago are 1/2 the speed of current models... some sata 1 motherboards dont like sata 2/3 hdd or certain sizes in hdd (limited to small size hdd etc) (this includes operating systems, like windows xp no service pack etc...(133g hdd size before sp1) via/amd chipsets (sata 1 dont like sata 2 hdd, older hdd could put pins on them to turn sata 2 hdd to sat 1, but this feature has been removed on newer hdd models, including translating firmware(lets drive be detected as smaller hdd), newer adf format hdd etc,, dont like xp etc/+ old bios...

Hm. If it's a pretty old machine (I guess so
), you could probably do worse than to pick up a second hand Spinpoint F1 or similar. I seem to remember they did okay with sound level tests and stuff. No, they're not as fast as the current breed, but they're alright, and should almost certainly be compatible with whatever hardware you have.Just a thought. Maybe some seller even has excess stock (of "new" ones) or something. |
