Default Looks like faulty G.Skill Ripjaws...

Basically I built my system almost 18 months ago and whilst it's served me well I never had what you'd call excellent stability nor oc-ability. In fact my G.Skill Ripjaws-XL 1600s have never been able to run @ 1600 and would only be stable at 1333, likewise my 2600k from day one would never overclock without BSOD on bootup.

So I assumed 1 of 3 possible culprits:
Motherboard
RAM
PSU

Pretty much in that order. Without spare parts it was a guessing game until I could eventually rule any out.

Today I received a new motherboard & 4x4GB identical modules and figured I'd just install the RAM first since that's the easy part. To my surprise this RAM is running happily @ 1600Mhz and my 2600K @4Ghz (baby steps!) so it looks like faulty RAM could have been the problem.

Anyway I guess I'm just wondering if many others have experienced faulty RAM lately? Seeing at G.Skill have lifetime warranty I should probably just RMA the old modules. In the meantime I feel I have some lost overclocking to catch up on

Any quick suggestions on a good stable daily overclock to strive for?

Anything up to about 1.32-1.34V should be okay. If you want an easy 24/7overclock, 4.5GHz would be the mark to aim for. Can probably go higher if voltage is low for that OC.

What does Memtest have to say about your RAM?

Memtest 4.1 never picked up any errors, that's the confusing part.

I'm now running my cpu @ 4.4Ghz (3.2v), ram still at 1600Mhz and so far so good. I haven't put it through it's paces yet but with the old ram installed there is no way system would have booted up at these settings. So things have definitely improved since swapping the ram out...

Latest version of memtest is v4.20 - use the bootable ISO and let it run overnight. One pass isn't enough.

3.2v?! Don't you mean 1.32v?

run cpu at default
run ram at it xms profile

test 1 stick in first ram slot(near cpu) with mem86+ v4.20

test each stick at rated speed. if all pass

test in 2 banks

then 4 banks

if passes.

test oc settings (oc cpu+ then test ram)

As per my signature I have run that since Oct last year with no issues D14 keeps temps in the 30-40's gaming and 50's stress testing.

I know what you mean. I was running some cheap Strontium 2x2G 1333 ram in this happily then suddenly it wouldn't run right at anything over stock, was getting graphic corruption (APU). Replaced it with a pair of 2x4G 1866 Ripjaws and the system is happy as pushing a decent overclock on the cpu and gpu. The old ram is now running fine in a mate's E6750/ G41 system.

*shrug*

Am running your settings now with the same temps being reported. Stable. Very happy

EDIT: Oh except I haven't touched the RAM timings, I figure it's not going to bring much of a noticeable improvement for my purposes but I might try it later just to see if all 4 modules can handle it.
