My point is Zambezi's poor performance is not because of the overall design concept; it has a large number of small issues/bugs, and a couple of larger ones that really add-up.
PD fixes a lot of the easier to fix bugs, and is probably closer to what Zambezi should have been (it should have had at least the same IPC per core).
Though it might take Steamroller to show what the basic architecture is properly capable of.

It's a bit like Phenom I to Phenom II.
Phenom I really should have been better than it was, while Phenom II fixed most of what was wrong with it (a large number of small issues, and a couple of larger ones, such as it not being suitable for 65nm) - IPC got up to where it should have (competing well against Core 2), and power consumption and clock speeds were greatly improved with the 45nm manufacturing process.

Again, it's not the concept behind the architecture that's the problem. It's basically got a large number of small issues.
Intel CPU's are good because they've got a lot of small details working well. But there's nothing particularly special about the architectural concept.

If steamroller comes out with lower Gaming performance then Phenom X6 ( A CPU 3 generations behind ) then we can all agree on the fact its the worst CPU arch for someone building a gaming machine.

If it starts to beat Phenom X6 in games by 5-10% its still not worth the upgrade for owners of the X6 who have probably already moved over to Intel while AMD wasted their time on 3 generations of a CPU thats pointless for gamers.

You seem to be saying that gaming is the only area of computing worth producing chips for? It's great you've moved to the i7 2600k, it's a decent chip which thrashes AMD's offerings in gaming and virtually every other scenario too.

Talking about Steamroller and speculating about poor performance and hypothetical situations really aren't the focus of discussion and appear more like a plain troll. Not even going to go there.

Back on topic, if Steamroller comes out in 2014, after Piledriver (which is due later this year yes?) then what's coming in 2013?

yeah well i do have my fingers crossed they can pull off something special with their new cpus but i guess we'll have to wait and see.
Gaming may not be the only reason to buy a high end CPU but it makes up the majority of the "Private" buyers who go for one.
Otherwise any 2012 CPU out on the market is enough power for Email, HD Video, office work and surfing the net with general users seeing more performance from an SSD then a faster CPU.

AMD reportedly to delay launch of desktop Trinity to October

The gist...

* Desktop Trinity got delayed from August to October. (In order to make some adjustments to the processors' design. This has caused the required consequential changes of mobo maker's products. So they're scrambling to apply the modifications.)

* Vishera (AM3+) is also going to be released in October with FX-8350 (125W and 95W models), as well as FX6300. FX-4320 model will come later.

* Socket FM1 was supposed to replace Socket AM3. The latter was supposed to die in mid-2012. This has been pushed to Q2 of 2013.

* After October, you will see four socket formats for AMD desktop platforms: AM3, AM3+ (Vishera), FM1 (Llano), and FM2 (Trinity).

Here is some more info on the 8350, 8320 and the 8300

By the looks of things the 8350 and the 8320 will be 125w retail cpus and the 8300 will be a 95w OEM cpu

This is just me being hopeful, but if AMD could bring in a quadcore cpu to compete on a price basis with the intel Pentium GXX series we could see them becoming a budget cpu-of-choice again, especially with overclocking. After doing a few budget builds over the last few months the fx4100 and the 3870k are just too expensive for their performance to be a wise choice over an i3 2100/Pentium G850.
