Cmon, blow is a strong word

It'll be good, just not as good as it could have been, had consoles not been so popular

The latest Deus Ex, Hitman, Crysis, Resident Evil... all proof of this

Looks to me like he looked to Mass Effect. There's a distinct similarity between the visual styles of the two.

I am so tempted to pick up the original games and play them again, even though everyone in the first two looks like they're made from half a dozen triangles. This is what a real stealth mechanic looks like.

1. The amount of noise you make is determined by how fast you're moving, and the surface over which you're moving.

2. Your visibility is determined by your proximity to light sources, and the extent to which you're exposed as opposed to being behind cover.

3. NPCs are alerted by sound, line of sight, your shadow, bodies, bloodstains, and missing items; they can also be distracted and misled by decoy noises.

4. You are able to modify the environment to your advantage by quenching or igniting light sources, covering surfaces with noise-reducing material, creating distractions using thrown objects or devices producing noise or light, and removing evidence of your presence (moving bodies to concealed locations, washing away blood with water).

The Thief games had all of this. I don't know of any game since which has had such a deeply designed and robustly executed stealth mechanic.

Thief 1 and 2 are what made me love stealth games that is for sure. I remember turning my light off, sneaking around the house and using headphones so I could keep playing past my bed time when I was a kid

I think Thief was my first 3D PC game. What I loved was the fact that the stealth mechanic wasn't a stuck on gimmick, it constituted the core gameplay. Unlike other games, you had to use stealth virtually the whole time. The need to be constantly aware, constantly making the right decisions, resulted in a satisfyingly high level of difficulty and a deep immersion into the game. The atmosphere of the Thief games was always excellent. And who can forget the awesome dialogue? The Hammerites had great lines.

* When I was a kid, the bears had claws as big as your finger!! - Guard

* I still can't believe someone spilled mead all over that rug!! - Guard

* What was that? Sounded like a, a sound of some kind - Guard

* "Ha! That'll learn ya, 'cept you're dead." - Warden Stout

* "Anybody there? (Snickers) We're friendly... and don't know how to fight...." - Guard

* "Hello? Anybody there? Don't be afraid. We're just a couple of friendly guys looking to (snicker) make friends...." - Thug

* "Who's there? (Silence) I wish it's a beautiful lady, coming to tell me how handsome I am." - Servant

* "I'll be home soon, drinking good dark ale, nibbling on a nice leg of mutton, forgetting about this place...." - Guard

* "Oh...these godforsaken boots! Why can't I wear my own shoes to work? Huh? What difference could it possibly make?" - Guard

* "Darn boots...stupid toe-pinchers...." - Guard

* "Well, taffer. Now that you're dead...can I have those boots?" - Thug

* "So tired...if it weren't for these taffin' boots, (yawns) I'd be asleep." - Guard

* "Must have been a mix up in the uniforms...pants feel...too tight...boots are loose... I'm gonna have blisters for sure..." - Guard

* "New boots. It's gonna take me a week to break-in the cursed things. And until then... I'll be walking like someone's grandmum." - City Watch

* "You son of a dog!". - Guard

* "You'll have to come down sometime, taffer!" - City Watch

* "I will get you, eventually." - Guard

* "I will have you hang for that, you taffer!" - Guard

* "OK, run! If I were you, I would run, too." - Guard

* "What's the matter? You are afraid of the big bad guard?" - Guard

* "Look, I got all taffin' night to look for ya. You got that kind of time?" - Guard

* "Too many shadows. Something could hide here easy." - Guard

* "Hey, you look familiar." - Town's people

* "What's all this? Is someone being clever?" - Guard

* "What's that noise? Oh, boy, sounds like somebody needs a good beating!" - Guard

* "I shall pain that head when I find it, craven." - Hammerite Guard

So what does this modern re-imagining mean in practice? “He’s now in the game doing more action moves – on that side we wanted the costume and the suit to reflect that. In the beginning he was more gothic. We toned down all the things that felt gothic, for example black nails and things like that. We want to make him a little bit more mainstream on that. Yes he’s a dark character, but we don’t want people to say he’s a gothic one.”

I haven't played any Thief game before but for those of you who are fans...bad news I guess.
