I took it out on a night dive (below) and found it only really picks up exactly what the torch is pointing at, no ambient area around the direct light contact at all. That said, i'm putting my hand up as total amateur so far, only using the gopro and an old olympus in case with separate flash for pictures. Lit either naturally or with a princeton tech led torch.
As for that Canon, even jesus said jesus when he saw that ISO range! Just looked, that's the camera my gf's saving up for, i'm currently rocking a 20yr old minolta film camera above water, was using a nikon d80 before that...until it stopped firing. Haven't fixed or replaced it yet as i've been concentrating more on diving than shooting these days.

hrm, i guess wither a light bigger than the camera its self or only use it in bright conditions.
i guess the 5dMKII will have to do, i like the idea of having a gopro on me for EVERY dive though

Got a Weedy Sea Dragon at Bare Island last Friday, after that days shooting, the following day i took the camera off my head in order to get less shaky footage.

Got a three parter from last fridays dive at bare island, la perouse. nothing too exciting, but had a really good, relaxed dive.

Some amazing shots in this thread!
I'm looking at getting a slightly better underwater camera to upgrade from my Lumix FT3. I have taken a few decent shots with it, but it's pretty terrible in lowlight, which means many shots turn out crap. I would love a digital SLR, but can't afford it at the moment. Was thinking something like a Canon Powershot G12, with a housing like this. Was thinking of getting a cheapish strobe setup for it too when I get a bit more cash. Will be used for free diving/scuba both during the day and at night. Anyone have any thoughts/recommendations/experience? Last edited by biomaster; 11th August 2012 at 8:48 PM. |

if i could recommend anything, go for a camera with the greatest ISO performance for UW photography. i think some of the panasonics and sony's are winning at the moment. I have a g9 and LOVE IT. another recommendation would be to get a housing other than the stock ones, ikelite sea&sea ect come to mind, that way you may be able to get a cable operated flash even ttl if you do go the canon route
