* sharing - we've been doing that for years without Office
* mail rules - I was using procmail in 1990
* Access - anyone who uses this needs to be shot. I've spent more time in my career replacing siloed Access files with proper database systems than I care to mention.
* One note - seriously?

Word, Excel, Powerpoint. They're the valuable apps there. (And even then, 80% of users still only manage 20% of the features at best).

So just to be clear, your points are:
  • everyone has been sharing calendars with automatic free/busy look ups with contacts for years
  • everyone has been able to configure complex mail rules via procmail
  • everyone shouldn't design small-scale databases that don't require infrastructure
  • a virtual notes organiser should be mocked for reasons that everyone knows

You're clearly bitter and this isn't really a discussion so why are we playing this?

Template previews and screen clipping are in Office 2010, I use them often. Seems like most of the changes are refinements to the look, feel and usability. It's almost like the reviewer never used Office 2010. I do like the PDF editing, SkyDrive integration and outlook improvements.

I really do hope we get the option back to change the colour scheme as this new white metro look is awful.

Office for ARM will lack features, report claims
http://www.theregister.co.uk/2012/08..._arm_stripped/

Quote:
Among the items to be pruned from the version of Office for ARM-based Windows RT will be macros, third-party add-ons, and support for Visual Basic for Applications (VBA)
I can't say I'm miffed. All of those features are terrible, and cause non-stop headaches for businesses that thought it was a good idea to implement them.

A white background is not good for your vision or productivity anyway. I suppose they just threw the ergonomics book out the window on this one.

Besides Elvis not being miffed, I'm just not surprised. Something has to be cut for that anemic platform.

I'd love to hear your experiences on this (perhaps in another thread over in the business forums?). I've done the Office upgrade twice in the past, and both times were awfully received by end users (despite a lot of money being poured into communication and training prior to the move).

I'd be curious to see if much has changed now that people are more accepting of interface changes in a post-tablet/phone world.

Wait... someone from Microsoft said that to you? Or was it just a reseller? Were they Australian?

I wonder if Star Office will come out on the ARM architecture.

I think that it is safe to assume it will.

OpenOffice is the open source version of Star Office, and is already on ARM.

What stupid bullshit macros and add-ins do you have that is stopping you from going to Office 2010?

2007, like Vista, is an unpolished but necessary step we had to go through to get to 2010/7. There is *no* reason outside of 3rd party add-ins that you should be going to 2007 over 2010 at this point.
