Had a look yesterday at me old monk, all gear worn is yellow, meaning no stats at all due to the augmentations apparently. They are Prestige items it seems so unless i remove them my gear is useless, so I read.
May just start a new char and get feel back for the game, we quit EQ as a guild when WoW came out for a change.

pffft.
like said, wow is for pussies.

if it doesn't take you 2 hours to get your corpse back and a lost level, your MMO is doing it wrong.

I personally play EQmac which has been locked in the pop era since it's inception!

I just started playing...again, I have been playing since 99 just after it came out, and have played all 13years, with a fair few breaks In between.
I've been away for a year and a half but now I'm baaaack, iVe consolidated my 5box team to 3 and using mercenaries.

People saying eq is a grindfest, it's true! It takes a long time to do anything most of the time, it's not a game for new players anymore, on face value it looks like shit and is confusing , and peoples ideas of the game from negative things they have heard. It has 18 expansions!!!! Theree is prolly 500 zones by now. Everyone is at least in the 80s-95 level range now, you won't find new players very often leveling up, if you see someone in a low level zone it's twinkled out leveling like mad, but usually witha few higher levels power leveling it, (it's easy to power level a toon to 80-85 in about 6-8hrs from level1 if you haven the right classes to level it)

With expansions travel hasa been made a lot easier etc, and nothing beats sharing zones with other players, it's so boring doing instances all the time ( eq has some too). What's the point of an mmo if you group and raid with only 4 people around you?

Every class in eq has unique roles and abilities, not like mmos these days that do anything, it washes the games down to, pick your race and name, now your the same as everyone else with different names on your hotkeys.

I played wow for about 4years on and off, it's fun, well it was, but it's judge another actiony blizzard game, that opened up a faux mmo system to the general gaming public, I thought it was cool when it brought players from non mmo genres into it, untill I realized, it's not a proper mmo game, it just brought in call of duty type, run and gun 30minute instance runners. I've had groups in eq that last 10hrs sometimes ( which is good and bad lol)

People who haven't played eq, or "had a level 40 ranger 8years ago the game sucks" type players don't appciate what a great mmo it is, you build your char, it takes a lot of time but it's something you appreciate, who doesn't have several top level raid geared wow chars, it's so easy to do, there's actually no skill involved, just rock up.

It's why games like dark, souls are great, it's hard, but rewarding!

Anyway what servers are you Eq lads on? Luclin here

unfortunately, i play EQmac so i can't play with you.
and i only play once every few months.
but you're right.

EQ was a rite of passage. now blizzard and a whole bunch of other bitches killed online gaming (Like xbox live and steam)

online gaming back in the day was a hardcore thing. now it's expected! i just want single player.

I have started playing again. Had a go at SK, dropped him at lvl 41 and gone back to an old alt, a lvl 34 Beastlord, lvl 50 now.
Don't think I am going to play my old main, a lvl 70 monk in Time and Qvic gear. Just gonna honour his memory by leaving him with all his achievements and not reduce him to Defiant gear and restart him with that.
Having a real good time and don't think I am going to bother with GW 2, just stick with EQ, it is the king of MMO's really.
Not played EQ since 2005 so been a long time between drinks hehe.
On Rathe-Prexus server, am an original Prexian since 1999/2000

Playing on Bertox with most other aussies left playing in a guild called Wreckers.

I used to play years ago and came back to check out F2P, then they did a big promo and I got 3 accounts with the latest expansion and 12mths on each for something like $180 aus.

that;s a pretty good deal.
with todays hardware, you can 3box pretty easy.

it's a shame we've all invested in out characters on different servers though!
I still love the EQmac experience of being stuck at POP.
I don't have to learn a pile of new shit and the game is still brutal hard

Yeah it was when SOE had the Triple SC weekends and you could still buy subscriptions with station cash. That feature has been removed now, probably won't be renewing for $99 / year per account however.

I really wanted to roll on EQMac because of the whole progression lock, I loved POP the most, but I don't really have any other use for a Mac.

I played EQ a fair bit back in 2000. Friend got me started, had a broken leg at the time and was stuck at home for 3 months, never really progressed that far, I just enjoyed the social chit chat element. Even back in 2000 I thought the graphics were poor
Made the transition to Asherons Call after about 6 months of EQ going nowhere. Enjoyed it a lot more, if my account and wasn't hacked and ransacked I'd probably have played it for years.
