Read the thread and though man how can u accidently spend that much made me tally up my pc.. I was thinking 3k MAX seeing as i just got new gpu
Turns out i have $2k in HDD's alone :S Would easily total $5k to replace it all i was surprised. And thats hardware in my main pc rig, plus monitor ect. Scared to think about the other media / server pc's left over hardware old hdds ect. I think its an interesting thread just for making me think about pc values. If u took an average of 2.5k for a 'gamers' pc and you take the 400 people who attend RFLan in WA thats $1,000,000; One million dollars of pc hardware. Never would have thought that. |

Try to think of how much time you've invested into building and troubleshooting your pc with your normal hourly rate and figure out how much your hobby costs haha, you might be pleasantly scared. you should find that cards with more vram should handle multimonitor setups better, i think there are some new 7970's with 6gb vram on each card

Rig will be worth $1K next year, $100 the year after, $10 the year after that.

A FULL 2GB is used; GPU vram is maxxed out
Without investigation for proof, I suspect 2x 4GB GTX 680's would serve a better purpose.

I'm chasing much the same with very similar specs; except I'm running 3xS27A750's @ 5760x1080@120hz; and went with 3xGTX680's. Performance still isn't where I want it to be, but I'm blaming the recent patch atm.
.... On another note, Swans M60 5.1's sound bloody amazing with BF3. Worthwhile upgrade :P. |

Are your GTX680's on a 16x 16x 16x PCIe 3.0 motherboard? Are they 4GB models? What patch are you talking about? ![]() I think, without conclusive evidence to back it up though, people running crazy resolutions like us need 4GB cards to ensure the VRAM isn't being maxed out.

My reasonably priced rig which gets occasional upgrades is still trucking along after 4 years of use.
All up I've spent 3k (excluding monitor - which is a 6-year old Dell 30") and it plays everything at max settings without raising a sweat.

yep big monitor worth keeping till it dies
i got my first 27" back in 2007, can never go back to small screen. but my new samsung 120z 3d great, white is white+ writing clear + sharp+ motion is smooth was thinking of getting 2x 21" and putting them on sides (90deg ), but you need more graphic power for faster fps, if i do that, it slow frame rates to much
