2007, like Vista, is an unpolished but necessary step we had to go through to get to 2010/7. There is *no* reason outside of 3rd party add-ins that you should be going to 2007 over 2010 at this point.
they may already have 2007 licenses lying around.

Mistake on my behalf, I thought it was 2007 we were going to, but it was in fact 2010.

elvis: will post some thoughts at some stage.

Nah, he's SA government iirc. They will be on Enterprise per-seat licensing. Definitely not boxed copies, and doubtful they have office with SA

They can run whatever they want.

well we have per seat here but no 2010 yet, all our licenses are still 2007.

that said my machine has a 2010 OEM on it.

We aren't going to replace 2007 probably for a while, no rush. Mrs works for a large govt owned company they only just got 2007 as well. So 2007 being deployed would not be a surprise.

What you have rolled out and what your organisation is entitled to are too completely different things.

That is going to cost you a sweet penny when you do move. No SA in a large organisation is generally a bad idea. Unless you are planning to move to LibreOffice or some other hippy free shit :P (j/k)

Don't know, no rush at this point anyway. Everything was here when I took over this role.

Like I said also Mrs works for a large govt owned business that only just got Office 2007 this year - it has plenty of life left in it yet. There is no rush for 2010.

You've missed my point that 2007 was an incomplete stepping stone to move from 2003 to 2010 Interface wise. (Just like Vista was to XP and 7).

The "Office" button is a pile of steaming crap (the replaced File Tab is *much* better) and Outlook 2007 doesn't even have a ribbon.

I haven't missed it, but Office 2007 is quite functional albeit not as refined as 2010.

Well, Office 2013 Pro Plus is out now on MSDN.. I'm downloading it now and will replace the CP with it.

I really like 2013... plays nicely with W8.

2010 is certainly a significant improvement over 2007.

But 2013 is a whole different kettle of fish. The interface is shocking. it's all white and washed out. Haven't used it long enough to get a feeling for differences in functionality/productivity.

I'm not a huge fan of the washed out white but I am finding Office 2013 to be noticeably quicker than 2010. Outlook 2013 is especially quicker (for me anyway) on my home PC than 2010 was.

Other than that, functionality is pretty much the same.

Theme's.

2013 has them.

White, Off-White, Darker, Dark (I believe there is 4, maybe one of the darker ones isn't there).

I couldn't see much (5-10 minutes testing, need it to show up on Partner/Technet to give more of an eval - that and Ex 2013, because ex2010 doesn't install on win2012) besides that Outlook really looks a lot like the Outlook.com (and i assume OWA of 2013).

MS is really trying to blur the lines between thick and web client.
