Whatever, as required . It does provide some pretty unique challenges, that are not faced by most IT workers.

Local knowledge is always good, depending on the direction of the wind, different places can fill up/empty with windblown .

By hit? Do you mean punched? or just ran into?

haha, woops; I mean I ran into him as he cut in front of my line without looking. He seemed alright and was all thumbs up so we just continued on

The bottom of snake gully can be madness.

About 80 different Gullys feed into it, from Green runs, all the way through to blacks. Saturday was the busiest I've seen it all season.

I am planning on going heliboarding this season in QT any recomends. I also need to ask the question as I cant find it on the websites. Do i need to purchase travel insurance which covers heliboarding as it is an extra 125 on a 80 policy.. But I dont want to crash and be with out a leg to stand on litererly and figurativly.

I went with these guys http://www.heliskinz.com/ - would def recommend them!

Note not all policies cover heli (most only cover boarding in resorts). I purchased a IHI Bupa policy which covers everything inc heli

I went with Harris and can't recommend them enough - we hit fresh runs all day (6 runs) and hadn't had snow in about a week. Well worth it and they put on a good lunch!

Can't help you with travel insurance though..

Lots of new snow here...

Methinks I will have to dig out something a little longer, wider and stiffer tomorrow.

my 152 noodle just won just it with 30cm+ of fresh on the ground.

Crazy days indeed... Time for a Seasonal Rant.

@ The guy in the Lexus in front of me on the drive up... If you're going to tailgate people before you pass them... once you pass them. please do more than 1KPH faster than them, OR PULL OVER AND LET OTHER CARS PAST

@ The Guy in the riced supra... Probably the wrong car to be driving up to the snow today. . I pity you, but good on you for doing the right thing and pulling over where possible.

@ Everyone who stops in the middle of the road... The chain fitting bays are there for a reason. Use them.

@ People in Busy Lift Queues - If its a Triple chair, Form 3's... If Its a Quad, 4's... Please do this well before you get to the gates.

@ The 40cm of Fresh Snow - I Love you, please never go away.

Speaking of collisions!

Even though this happened in QT it's more of a public service announcement than anything. I was skiing along merrily down Gotham City @ The Remarkables and had just made a right turn when out of nowhere an out of control slider came down the hill and collided with me. I was barreled over and landed on my left shoulder, quite cleanly dislocating it. Ski patrol were awesome (green whistle rocks my world) and got me back to base and the medics reduced my humerus and all was well. I got X-rays, which looked ok, they told me to get physio when i got home and sent me on my way.

Upon return to Australia, I went to the physio who told me to go see an orthopedic surgeon. I got some xrays, a CT and an MRI and this was the result:

Circled are the two pieces of bone connected to the ligaments of the rotator cuff that were broken when the humerus dislocated. This is known as a 'Bony Bankart Lesion". This required surgery to repair. They attempted a keyhole repair but couldn't get a good purchase on one of the pieces so had to open me up. Two screws later and I was all good. This is how I looked after the op:

Now I'm 1.5 weeks into having my arm in a sling 24/7 to allow the muscle they cut through to access the bones, to heal. Then I'll probably have a year of physio to get full movement back in my arm.

I never saw who hit me but I heard her. I don't know who she was talking to but all I heard was "I was just going straight ahead down the hill, I couldn't stop, I couldn't avoid him." What's more, she didn't even walk over and say "sorry". That really shit me off.

So the moral of the story is:

1. Stay in control at all times. Know your ability, start easy, be able to stop and avoid other people.

2. People below you have the right of way. The skier or boarder downhill of you has the right of way, also look above before entering a hill.

7. Stay on scene. If you are involved in, or witness an accident, remain at the scene and identify yourself to Ski Patrol.

In the grand scheme of things this was not a big hit, but the results have well and truly fucked at least the next 18 months of my life.

Listening to others war stories is always painful.

I've been relativley lucky, and apart from an ankle injury, when learning, (caused by my excessive weight + the binding system on rental gear), I've gotten off pretty lightly.

As much as we hate ski patrol for getting first tracks everyone and fun-policing certain spots. I don't envy them at all, having to deal with some of the accidents would be a pretty gruesome job sometimes. It's nice to know that someone will be available to pull me back to the medical center should the worst happen.

Sorry about that mate. Getting hurt on holidays sucks. I agree with your "skier/boarder in front has right of way" but that doesn't mean, as in my case, it's a good idea to change your line. You don't do little turns and then all of a sudden cut the entire mountain, especially when the run is wide enough and busy enough to warrant three streams of traffic.

Oh wow. That sucks man hope your recovery is a speedy as possible.

...And I thought I had it bad with a trip booked to NZ in two weeks with a fucked knee (bursitis + damaged meniscus) -- I can at least walk again now and have most motion back in my knee, but it's still swollen as hell.

I'm just quoting from the ACOR here, and in this case it was clearly her lack of control that caused the collision. Either way, sucks balls.

Yeah, I tried to convey that I wasn't referring to him ("as in my case").
