Cheers for the info guys, I'll give the 7970's a go, i'm used to dealing with alot of different gfx cards and drivers etc and more than used to crossfire issues, i'll battle my way through it, if it becomes to much a pain i'll ditch and go the 680m's

It's the Creative Recon 3Di - The sound chip in the R1 was better IMO - at least it was grounded properly.
Speakers are fine, I've just got some crackling through the headphone jacks, especially during disk access as it seems to be at its worst when opening apps. How are the 7970's fairing? Would be nice to do a bit of a comparison with the 680's

I've got a laptop of similar size, you might want to check here http://www.crumpler.com/AU/Search.ht...geCode=EN&q=17 if you intend on taking that thing anywhere (they name the bags pretty well too haha). http://www.crumpler.com/AU/Laptop-Ba...=SKY002-B00170 This is my personal one and it fits the G75 which I think is slightly wider than the Alienware by memory.

It depends really, I use mine for work and gaming and it travels a lot besides being the wrong side of 4kg.

![]() Physical damage is probably not under the warranty terms but your mate should probably contact the SC anyhow to see what they can do

I have been taking my M17x (6.4kg) with me to site (FIFO for last 18 months) and it's been great. Got rid of my desktop early last year (was a 720XPS upgraded to the hilt) but the M17x has acted as a good desktop replacement. Am looking to upgrade myself later this year or early next year but am torn between wanting something lighter (like an Ultrabook) but at the same time wanting the power of a laptop with quad/hex-core/32GB ram/2x480gb SSD/sli gfx. The former would be good for the things I usually do, but the latter would be great when I need to do engineering work (usually modelling in Navisworks / AutoCAD / Solidworks and also simulations in Simulink / Matlab).
It's happened three times now in the past year that I've been forced to check in my laptop as checked luggage due to the lappy + PSU + bag being > 7kg
