Default OC info / help.. a little

Ok, at the momemt I am just looking to catch up on info and get a little bit more from my current rig.

First bit is info. In the past I have done some pretty good o/c's - but i realised today that was back in p3 days lol!!

Much has changed.

Current rig:

Mobo = Gigabyte GA-MA74GMT-S2
CPU = AMD Phenom II x4 945 @ 3GHZ, (HT link @ 1ghz, bus 200mhz, multiplier @ 15)
RAM = G.Skill DDR3 - 1333 (4gb x 2 kit)
GPU = HIS Radeon HD 5850 - 1gb

So last time i did any if this i had a fsb option, noine to be found in this bios, is this replace by the HT link or the north bridge??

I remember the cas timings setup for ram, the basics of the multiplier and voltages, just a little lost around the nb and ht links??

Any help would be great, but I am also looking for an upgrade to get gaming performance right up as well - but thats another post.

FSB = CPU host frequency lol found it lol

meh - after a bit of reading to remember everything I managed to get her OC'd a little to 3.4Ghz with temps being ok.

3DMark 11 run in performance mode gave a score of 3695

So I got a little bit more out of her for now - by the end of the week I am hoping for a new mobo, cpu, ram & video card

See how I go choosing that lol

I find AMD processors very easy to overclock.

I test how high i can push the CPU multiplier on the standard voltage. run Prime95 between multi's for a few minutes to test for stability.
When i i get my first crash, i start upping the voltage.
I have run up to 1.6v on an unlocked 550 BE before. That was under a corsair H70 cooler so don't be afraid of a bit of voltage.

The other way to go about it is to keep upping the bus speed. I don't think i need to tell you that it also raises you NB, HT and RAM speeds at the same time so lower the RAM speeds when trying this to avoid RAM instability being confused with CPU stability.

When OCing AMD CPU's, i keep the NB around 2200mhz and try to get the HT to around 2600-2800mhz. You'll probably need to raise your north bridge voltage for this.
