Exactly what he said ^^^

No issues with posting knives, swords etc. I get my knives and multi tools online from both aus and overseas and have yet to have a problem with postage.

Brilliant thanks for the heads up fellas. Well, I'm no dealer but am looking to sell a collectable movie sword on eBay and needed to check if I'd be messed around by Auspost if I needed to post it interstate.

Stonerboy - are you in Vic? I've been reading around that in order to own blades the owner requires a permit...is this true?

Depending on the blade yes you would need a permit.
I have my tools as such and your average pocket knife from somewhere like Aussie disposals and there is no issue.
cerimonial or movie replica weapons and blades etc you need a permit and funnily enough if its sheathed you can wear a sword in public haha.

I have looked into it in the past but found more joy in repairing old machetes sanding them down to clear of rust, grinding away and sharpening the edge. Then making new wooden handles for them. Did it for my Nan and she loves it for her garden have mother half finished one in my room.

isnt it something about "double edged" or "tipped" that you need a permit for it ?

I believe swords and daggers are prohibited items in VIC. You require a permit to posess them and there may be storage requirements, I can't recall.

You can get a permit for a variety of reasons, eg membership of an approved collectors club, use in religion, symbol of office etc etc. Contact VIC Police for confirmation and details IMO but there's a list of prohibited weapons here: http://www.police.vic.gov.au/content...ument_ID=25574

Ordered a KA-BAR US Big Brother $149 and Ka-BAR ZK Death Dagger $84.94 today, will get that on the weekend hopefully. Up next is probably a KA-BAR Heavy Duty Warthog and War Sword.

Dodgy night time iPhone pic of my SOG Throwing Knife Set and Battle Axe. Never thrown knives before, was interesting learning about knife throwing.

Another dodgy iPhone pic of my KA-BAR ZK Tanto beside a matchbox for comparison.

My SOG Tomahawk. A little hardee for me to get this to stick, but i'm getting there.

I also have a SOG Fusion Fixation stashed in the cupboard somewhere.

quick question, the wife is in the USA at the moment so i'm about to do an amazon order for a kabar and a mora classic number 2, both are ~12 inches long or so i guess.

i've told her as long as she declares them both on the way back into australia (as they aren't folders) but now i'm not so sure. I read the customs website which says:

is she going to get hazzled? or by sheath knife do they mean knives with a retractable sheath? i last came through customs a few years ago and they didn't have an issue with the little folder that was in my suitcase (even though i didn't declare it) but now who knows.

if it's going to be an issue i'll just get her to mail them back, nobody in this thread seems to have issues with that.

according to the controlled weapons poster one can obtain from the victorian police website "hunting knives" are a controlled weapon (so are kitchen knives) but not a prohibited weapon, so shouldn't be an issue.

oh and amusingly cat-o-9 tails with knotted cat tails are prohibited, which leads me to believe cat-o-9 tails with unknotted ends are fine and dandy.

pics? why not. was considering a becker BK2 but they look pretty awkward and i'm not going to be doing any extreme survival or zombie apocalypsing any time soon.

Yeah sheath knife there refers to a knife that has a blade that retracts into a sheath/handle, not a normal knife that has a sheath.

that's what i was thinking, the problem is i used common sense to come to this conclusion, which isn't as common as you might think

isn't what at the customs line? you can always just say "nothing to declare" which i usually do and they just let me go without looking at anything, but last time they must have X-rayed my bag before i picked it up.
