Artline 200
This is my most "useful" pen of choice. The metal clip makes a great tension wrench for picking locks

Actually, I have a formal request.
Now that I have a tablet device, does anyone know any good 2-in-1 stylus pen combos?

I have two pens; a Waterman ballpoint which is my everyday handbag/work pen, and a Twsbi demonstrator fountain pen which I keep forgetting to buy ink for - that's my home pen.

The Waterman is quite slim and small, it has a brass barrel so it has a nice weight to it, nice to write with if you have smaller hands. Ballpoint is my least preferred, but it's non drip and handbag/diary proof.

The Twsbi has great reviews as a functional, pretty everyday working fountain pen; it is a piston filler and very cheap considering. I really do need to get some decent ink!

I had a LeBoeuf barleycorn fountain pen which was beautiful, 18k gold plate but once you capped it, was very heavy and unbalanced in the hand, and I hate writing with a cap on the table. I sold both of the ones I had, but still, they were pretty - might pick one up again, one day.

One of my old favourites I no longer have but looking for is the Rotring 400 rollerball, a beautiful understated pen with great balance and comfort, and the quality of the rollerball writing was fantastic, the blue ink was really pretty too.

Love my lamy's.
I've been using them for 15 years, though like all fountain pens I never let others write with it.

It does remind me that I need to consider upgrading, the nib needs adjustment and possibly replacing.

Fountain pens are certainly cool - but what do you guys actually use them for? Just signing a document here and there, or actually writing notes etc?

I've used mine all through uni for writing notes and as a general pen. Now whilst working I still use it, though I do get some looks when out on the shop floor.
I have always used a refillable cartridge and purchase the ink separately.

General pen. Fountain pens are great for forcing you to slow down and enjoy the actual act of writing, rather than just making it a means to an end A good pen makes writing a real pleasure. One that is comfortable and suited to your personal tastes, and in a style/look you like, just makes it a much nicer experience and gives your work a more personal touch.

The piston ones are also more environmentally friendly than buying a pack of 12 cheapos and throwing them out/losing them constantly. You just refill them via a bottle of ink, which normally comes in a glass bottle and lasts a good year or two.

Noodlers, but be aware the guy who makes it is insane and if you do get some, wear gloves when you first open it and do so over the sink.

He's got a thing about how terrible it is that...hope you're sitting down for this, don't suffer from heart palpitations...THAT OTHER INK BOTTLES AREN'T FILLED ALL THE WAY TO VERY, VERY TOP.

Here's a half-mad rant on the site about it.

There's some frothing ranting about "waste" or whatever, how other ink companies rip you off by having the air gap...not Noodlers, but!

No, you can be guaranteed that you will get the maximum volume of ink the bottle can hold. You can also be guaranteed that you will then immediately lose more ink than would have been lost had there been a sensible amount of empty space in there as the ink immediately spills out of the bottle and over your fingers, staining them. The bottles are so full they warn of temperature differentials between the ink and the room causing minor explosions of ink from the bottle.

Took me friggin' weeks to get all that Navajo Turquoise off my skin. It's not value-for-money. It's just inconvenient. I know of no one so anal as to bitch about that 50ml bottle of ink they bought is a ripoff because the bottle can actually hold 54ml.

It's good ink, but.

Trusty Mitsubishi UB157 for me. I buy 'em by the box and I'm onto my 4th box now I think.

Currently use Lamy Safari on Rhodia with the most beautiful blue ink that I was gifted.

Want a Parker 51. I really like the streamlined body,

Not sure which colour I'd like.
