Beautiful Laguiole mate!

Mine is only 12 years old, but they are amazing knives!

Depends on what it is. check the rules on the customs site and your state's laws and declare it and should be OK.

For the longest time I had been going to get a Spyderco Caspian for swiftwater rescue, (yes I do actually have swiftwater rescue accreditation) kayak, rafting etc but I see they have discontinued it Anyone know of a replacement ?

1. No pointy end
2. Bright colour (red or yellow) is preferable but not a deal breaker, for ease of finding when it's invariably left on ground !
3. non fold able (trying to cut rope loose while upside down in turbulent water and fumbling to fold a knife out sucks)
4. I will need to mount it on a PFD
5. Nitrogen, rather than carbon steel as I will probably use it on the Ocean Kayak as well
6. Serrated edge for cutting line easily.

We always travel with my Leatherman. (NZ and various SE Asian destinations) Not had a problem. Use it all the time, from slicing a baguette for lunch, to filleting a fish !

?? Last I looked they were too big, to heavy and pointed but I shall look some more I guess. I was just pointed to that Spyderco by some of my peers, never really investigated too much

There are a number of different dive knives. Some of them are quite large, but others are extremely small. I have one that attaches to the inflation hose for the BC which is quite small and light. I try to post the make/model tonight.

They also have lots of other cutting tools, which may be interesting to you.

3 suggestions:

Meyerco MANKR Necklance River Rescue - cheap to the point of disposable
CRKT McGowan Extrik-8-R Rescue Knife - very lightweight

Personal favorite for your needs:

Mil Tac Emergency Rescue Cutter Knife in orange - a friend uses one when he's doing dogging/rigging work. (I'm told this is also luggage/customs friendly if you travel and work).

All can be bought from cuttingedgeknives.com.au

for diving you can prety much categorise stuff into 4 categories

shears - self explanitory

Prys - mainly used for prying things like abalone off rocks, there are some knives setup for this but most divers will just go for a bar

utility knive- eg. the 2 pics above, will usually have straicght and serated blades, and a line cutter

kill knife/spike- used for killing blows on fish. blades can have one or 2 sharpended edges, possibly a serrated edge and possibly a line cutter. If you need to know which way the pointy end goes, dont get one of these

I used to have a good utility knife but it is somewhere in PPB now, so i just use a kill knife now when I dive that has serrated and line cutters on it just in case. at the end of the day i'm spearfishing so the utility got little use, and if i needed to kill my spike was attached to the buoy, so this just works better

i got a bit curious and googles zombie apocalypse kit....
was really surprised to find this, was only expecting it to be ameture places

http://www.gerbergear.com/Apocalypse...-Kit_30-000601

what im really confused at is the lifetime warranty; how does it work?
is lifetime the human or zombie lifetime?
if it doesnt perform as required, and you still survive, how do you make the claim given its the complany is likely to not be functioning
