There seems to be allot of mis thoughts going on about Thunderbird and was thinking of posting here but decided to wait and see if the same things would happen here people thinking its over etc.

I read the press document and they ARE NOT abandoning or shutting Thunderbird down.

Note these points in bold:

Quote:
A Release Drivers team will produce the Thunderbird updates every six weeks and work with module owners on the planning and integration of the community contributed innovations.

Mozilla will continue to provide paid staff, logistics and infrastructure for the release drivers team to produce updates and new releases with the same level of quality than today. Support will continue to be provided by the Thunderbird community and Mozilla will continue to provide the required infrastructure.
Here are the true facts:

Thunderbird will be on a officially supported 6 week by staff security update cycle starting September once they roll out all there features there working on. This is only security updates to both Thunderbird and Thunderbird ESR.

Any community member maintaining a module in the branch are encouraged to continue working and grow after that update and those updates and new features will be part of the official release cycle.

All new features after the September update will be handled by the new 'Governance Model' which in noob terms is that the Mozilla staff are doing a handoff to the community for the management and development of all new features.

This means effectively that all new development will be done by the open source community through the 'Governance Model' (community management) and all security updates each 6 weeks will be done by the actual Mozilla/Thunderbird staff.

Then everything is integrated to actual update that's pushed down by the Mozilla 'Release Drivers team' as stated above.

In no way is Thunderbird being abandoned shut down superseded etc.

Yes while they are pulling resources away from only new features but at the same time handing the project off to be developed more to the community through a new community managed system which they have said they tried many times in the past in various ways.

Ultimately now it up to the open source development community if they want Thunderbird to have new features or to continue to grow or not.

People keep saying about how only If programs etc only were in the open source community they would grow and not die and be more to what users want, well here is a chance for the community to actually put and act on what there words say.

If Thunderbird ends up falling abit from now on its on the open sources community's fault for not taking care of it and then we can all really see how good the community is at taking care of projects that some people, hold this community to be better compared to the proper dedicated staff model.

Well, if anyone else notices this issue (or other issues related to Firefox losing window focus), the problem seems to be with Flash Player:

Hope it gets addressed soon

Question MyStart thing

Hi I installed youtubedownloader as I wanted to download a tutorial on Wordpress. Now even though I unticked everything it installed Incredimail and Incredibar toolbar on Firefox Then it changed the homepage to MyStart search thing.

Now I uninstalled them all even from regedit but even though I reset my home page address when I open a new TAB I still get the MyStart search page come up. Where do I set the page that I want to come up when I open a new TAB?

I was getting a page with a few of my sites come up so I could just click on one. I am using 14.0.1

Okay to get rid of that MyStart thing I deleted Firefox and reinstalled. Problem is now Google search has all gone to default google.com not .com.au so how do I set it all to search Australian?

Should be down the bottom right hand corner of your Google page.

Ages ago, I had my home page set to this: http://www.google.com.au/firefox?com...en-GB:official - and I've kept it that way ever since.

Never mind the "complete=0" bit, unless you're into all that too. But if you are, check out GoogleEnhancer and OptimizeGoogle, among other things.

I like having the option right there, of searching "the entire web" (haha), or "just Australia". More or less, of course.

How are people going with Moz FF on their tabs? I'm using the beta and I'm finding it excellent. Had the odd crash here and there but that's rare. Everything seems to be working well and love the use of the buried tabs down the left hand side

Assuming the mobile version is the same. It's fantastic on my One X.

for some reason, whenever i click a link in firefox, it automatically opens the link in a new tab, its very frustrating, it used to just load the link in the same tab.

Dunno why its suddenly changed, i didnt do anything.

Any ideas how to change it back?
