The tactile feedback from fountain pens is unparalleled - it just feels great. At school, whenever I can, I try to write instead of typing, and for things such as exams, I seem to be able to write essays faster. However, I use FP's for pretty much all my writing, which is a fair bit.

I've been playing with an FP for the past few days, can certaintly say it makes writing a lot more interesting.

Was juggling whether i wanted a FP, rollerbal or the standard ballpoint to replace my duofolds, definitely will be going with a FP now. Just need to decide on which one.

Brilliant, brilliant pens. Unfortunately, those two are in a state of disrepair at the moment. Need to fix them. Both are Aerometrics. And, but of course, the paper those are on is Rhodia. The writing's from my Lalex 1938 Sterling Silver Linea.

Actually, the burgundy with the rolled-gold cap did get "repaired" by those useless pricks at The Pen Shoppe in Brisbane Arcade - actually, I'd say a closer description would be "ruined". They squared off the plastic hood, and put a friggin' Hero nib in there or something.

The Flighter (the stainless steel one) got cracked at the threads when I dropped it. This is common, unfortunately. The Lucite gets rather brittle, which is a function of their design. They were wartime pens, a bit budget. The reason the nib's hooded like that is because it's only a few millimetres wide, not the large arrowhead of normal pens, because platinum and gold and iridium were getting hard to come by in 1941.

They are excellent, excellent writers. They're not what you might think of when you think fountain pen, though. They don't smack down a thick, wet line, but a fairly dry, thin one. It does have wonderful shading to it, being a little less bold. And you don't need to blot them much, especially if you've got Quink in them.

They're thin and light, which is hard to find in fountain pens - most are pointlessly big and heavy, not designed for writing. (Some of the high end Fabers and whatknot are just stupid, made from about three tons of mammoth ivory or some such nonsense.)

The P-51 is definitely a good example of American Modernist design .

2010. Antiques fair, but the chick selling it wasn't dealing in pens, it was in her junk lot. Being a typical stuck-up antiques dealer, it was deemed borderline worthless by her.

Her loss, my gain. Wonder how many ye olde glass oil lamps (her stock-in-trade) she sold in Tamworth...those things are a dozen a dollar in the bush.

I use a Papermate Inkjoy 700RT for day to day writing (and to improve my normal handwriting)



And a Hunt 101 'Imperial' nib in a Speedball 9455 oblique holder for fun or extra fancy stuff!


Does anyone here use a flex nibbed fountain pen? Now that's something I wouldn't mind switching to!

Nice handwriting! Mine is a scrawl and a disgrace to writers everywhere

I've always coveted a flex nibbed pen, but being left handed and knowing you need some technique to get them going has made me a little wary.

I recommend the Duke pens - especially the "rings" versions.
