Er... I told you already - the "shred" command under Linux or tools like DBAN.

They're both pieces of software. Both free. Both downloadable. No-one said you need to install a whole new OS.

anything like this available on the Mac?

i'd like another way to wipe it other than hitting the 'reset button'. wouldn't the data be easily retrievable if i just used the 'reset button'?

thanks

THIS IS NOT A EXTERNAL HDD - it is a Sony EBOOK READER.

It uses Flash RAM, not a hard disk.

Take the SD memory card out of it and press the reset button. For GAWDS SAKE... it had a few books on it, not your banking details

Or was it some books about... dwarf pron

If you are that worried and paranoid, just chuck the thing away!

Read this thread... http://www.mobileread.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=172879

When you do a Hard Reset of the device, it formats the Flash RAM. It deletes the lot.

Google it if you like - it's not rocket surgery or anything "secret"

sometimes you just cant get thru to some people, he does this sort of thing all the time, and i have repeatedly tried offering him advice in the past, but it all falls on deaf ears.

if he cant accept your help, just let it go, its not worth bothering with.
