After a week a red pixel has turned up close to the right hand side of the monitor (it wasn't there before hand). I seem to have really bad luck with DELL monitors (which doesn't say much for their QA). I'll ring support and see if I can get it replaced and if not I may just return if for a refund. This is not acceptable on such an expensive "Premium" monitor.

Well they do have a complete satisfaction guarantee iirc. You could also say there was a small whining noise with it also ; )

They have lost my potential business with their lack of performance (ie quality) with their ultrasharp monitors (27-30") as both seem to suffer from lack of quality assurance.

Yeah, their quality assurance is severly lacking lately especially on these "premium" monitors. If I am spending upwards of $1,000 I want better QA.

Also I work in IT and I'm starting to see a lot of their products failing quite regularly from regular use and not hardcore type of use at that. Just Win7 and Office.

Might have to look at a monitor from Samsung or Asus.

I guess they figure on the model of pumping them out and if we get a few returns here and there no biggie.

I have approval for a brand new replacement (normally their policy is to send you a refurbished monitor) as the box the original one came in was already opened (the seal was broken) when I received it. This set off alarm bells when it was delivered (I assume I had been sent a returned monitor in dodgy DELL fashion and not a new one) but I checked that all the contents were there and it was issue free upon checking it so I wasn't too worried about it (but then the red pixel showed up a week later). Anyway, I'll see how I go with the new replacement when it arrives (it's a really nice monitor otherwise when it's issue free).

D'oh! I've definitely heard the refurb stories, so whenever I have requested a replacement monitor I always specify in the notes that I don't want a refurb. Never got one so far.

I got the new replacement today, it seems issue free so far no bright/dead pixels etc. Here's hoping it stays that way.

Anyone know how I can add 16:9 2560x1440 to my ATI card for my Dell U3011.

Id' prefer to play SC2 in 16:10, not 16:9 (you actually see more) but for some reason that res isn't available to me :/

iirc, SC2 is a funny one... It won't let you "Actually see more" as it's considered an unfair advantage (I believe Blizzard had dreams that it would end up an Olympic sport!) I recall spending a bit of time over at WSGF back at release trying to get SC2 to run on my triple 30's - apparently, any success with patching the App would be detected and render you 'a cheat' on battle.net! (Although I haven't checked back in recent times, might be worth a look to see if they've come up with anything new).

Cheers, Tim.
