What do people use for white backgrounds to make objects 'float'. I figure you just need something that is a constant white colour and doesn't have any texture.

white paper and slight over exposure. Do white balance first. Also using a fill light of flash will help eliminate shadows.
Read this too. ![]() Dna

I have a roll of drafting paper left over from my uncles engineering days that I use for smaller objects (it's about 1.3m wide).
I've tried linen sheets in the past but find them too much hassle. Once you've got the creases sorted they gather dirt/hair/debris too easily. With paper you can just shake off anything left behind by the subject (like pollen from flowers) or put it strait into the bin and it's ready to go again. This is fairly representative of the results I get. Click to view full-sized image! Hosted by UGBox Image Store |

i use an old white laminate wadrobe sction so i have a plain white surface on 5 sides useful for boucing light and reducing shadows. one popular surface that i might get for larger shots is white plexiglass with white paper underneath in needed it looks good and can be back lit ect
edit this is a shot of a resin model i shot back when i was using a cannon A 200 results have improved now with the D70 Click to view full-sized image! Hosted by UGBox Image Store Last edited by nodabs; 23rd November 2004 at 7:26 PM. |

Petal you might want to try linen sheets or material with a little but of texture so that it doesnt bounce or reflect to much light... you would want the texture fine enough to that the camera didnt pick it up im guessing tho.... i have used a bedsheet in the past and its pretty good... are you wanting to use PS later to cut your object out and replace with your own background???
My friends have used plastic boxing or plastic sheets custome made in wooden boxes. Or wooden box with white "wall paper"... with this route takes some pics first to see how the material handles reflections etc.. for a no frills alternative bed sheets should work ok. Macro pics will look awesome and make the object stand out alot

It's mostly for taking photos of object where I just want to object and now background. I currently just use paper but I always seem to grab a phone bill or something 'cause it's right there and they normally have creases in them

Pros normally use light tents for product shots. To borrow a petal-ism, you're on the fucking net, use it! Link on how to make a light tent
