Edit: ooops just read that post eva
I've had it without the bracket (on a single card), it doesn't seem to matter much TBH. Though you definitely need the two back nipples, so if you need to take the bracket off then you're talking a difference of ~2mm, which is cutting it VERY fine.

well ordered one today so it will be interesting to see how it performs. I can currently get a 495/1410 with the stock heatsink, i would really like to be able to get a little more of an overclock on the core

How are the ram heatsinks glued on ? Can they be removed later if need be ?

Karsa , what cpu and o/c do you have ? My stock cooled 7800 would run at 499/1420 with low cpu o/c but now with higher o/c it has dropped down to 490/1350 , so a VF700cu is in order I reckon .

The base of the ramsinks come with their own thermal tape, just peel off the plastic strip and stick the ramsinks onto the memory chips.

I'm surprised the VF700Cu is better than the stock cooler... In my own experience, it was better than my 6800GT cooler by 8 degrees or so under full load, but I can't see it improving on my current6800U's stock cooler...

And with that in mind, the 7800gtx's stock cooler loooks pretty beefy - wouldn't have thought the zalman would beat it...

Groove , maybe its because the 6800U is double height and the 7800 is single height , thats alot more heatsink on the 6800U , though I did read in another thread about ultra owners reporting improved temps with zalman coolers on their cards as well .

I have a 3500 venice overclocked to 2650, it will go higher but i will wait untill i install the watercooling. The cpu o/c doesnt seem to make any discernable difference to my overclock on my graphics card. The thing i have noticed though is one a couple of cold nights i could get it as high as 505/1410 yet lately while its been warmer it varies between 490/495 on the core and 1400 on the memory. I have also just put a 120mm fans in the top of my case blowing directly onto the graphics card so once i put it all back together that should make a difference.

I cant believe how hot the heatsink gets on the 7800, after gaming for a couple of hours its almost to hot to touch. I can only see the VF700cu improving on this. I will let you know how it goes anyway, i should recieve it this week sometime.

Oh yeah as for the ram sinks i ordered the zalman ones and they are attached with thermal tape so it should be easy to remove if need be.

Hey.

Just installed the Zalman VF700-Cu on my GTX.

Before my Zalman VF700-Cu was installed, the card at idle was 48c and 69c at load on stock freq.

When I installed it, everything fits fine, the ram heatsinks, mounting holes, its a perfect fit.

I noticed a drop once installed, and mind you the thermal paste hasnt set, to 36c at idle and 57c at load.

I then overclocked the card to 500/1350 and it now runs at 38c and 60c.

Great fan, am going to see if I can push more out of the card now.

I was just wondering if you have to run the zalman fan from the supplied adapter or if you can infact simply run it from the card's socket?

Cheers!

The Zalman fan connector is a standard 3-pin connector. I'm not sure if that would fit the two pins usually found on the graphics PCB.

karsa - the VF700 comes with its own set of ramsinks, you don't need to order more, unless you have extra ram chips to over
