I would just buy a new tank. The tank is the cheapest bit of kit you buy anyway. I would never trust a tank that I made myself. But if you have glaziers skills, then go for it...

Problem is around here no-one will custom build a tank.
If I buy a new tank, its going to be a 4' tank. That means new light and new filter - bit of a PITA when I just got those two items for my little 2' |

You could seriously just buy a trading post/ebay 2ft tank for less effort than it is to do that aye =/
