Exclamation OCAU Phenom owners club

Amd's phenom is a true quadcore cpu. Its amd's next gen of chip. It appears to be faster in windows then intels cpu, and even tho bench marks slower then intels chips offers a competitive price. It also turns over 2k PPD in F@H, meaning for the price of a Q6600 chip u can build a WHOLE phenom 9500 system and have it folding. Good cheap F@H boxen by the looks.

The phenom is a high spec, desktop cpu.
We may also see more speed come from the cpu when put in the AMD spider system, Using all amd parts - all the time.

Well who owns one of these beautiful chips? The box is pretty hot, lots of black and purple.

I'm waiting for black edition's. I really want one that breaks 3GHZ.

I have a K9A2 Platinum board, crossfired 3870's, and a CPU watercooling system (Apogee GT, MCP655, PA120.3)

haha yeh, they aint exactly a slow chip. over 3ghz i think they will be great. if they could top 3ghz now, then they would beat a Q6600 in bench marks not just in day to day life.

I'll eventually be in this 'club'.
I only need to buy a Phenom to replace my X2-4800+, but would like a Phenom that runs faster than my present X2. I am running a Gigabyte DS5 board (AM2+) at the moment so will only need the CPU.
I am waiting to see what the re-spin of the silicon will bring and am hoping for a another speed-grade increase for this quarter, then I will jump in and buy one.
Also, a speed-grade increase should lower the price of the already released Phenoms.

A 3GHz Phenom beating a stock Q6600? Wow, big surprise there!

Now, find me a Phenom that can even come close to a Q6600 @ 3.6GHz, and you might have an extra member to your 'club'.

Somehow, I'm not holding my breath...

Why? do u really need the speed? seriously, tell me one thing that u need that speed for. Alot of people cant justify stupid clocks at the moment. I was talking to someone who was pretty big in the ocing world and he told me he does it for 3 things:
Fun
Testing the cpu
Having a fast CPU makes you look good.

My 9500 is more then enough in windows, oh wait - Phenom has mem controlers and l3 cache thats bigger so its very fast in basic - daily operations.

Mate, my old Athlon XP was more than enough for Windows also - what is your point?

If all you wanted was something to run 'very fast in basic daily operations' it begs the question - why did you get a quad core in the first place?

How about yes, I do need the speed? I actually happen to use software that can take advantage of quad cores...

A Q6600 CPU is only $325.
Cheapest Phenom 9500 is $249 http://www.staticice.com.au/cgi-bin/...?q=phenom+9500

How on earth are you building a WHOLE system with only $76 left over?

Talking

No need to flame or compare to Intel Cpus in the this thread.
You can put me as tentative. Have 1 cpu on order.... but no board as yet.
Have not decided..on which one

Edit: Will update this post when stuffs arrive!

I am neither fanboy of both sides at this moment. Simply wanna buy and play whatever is interesting. You can never disregard something until you try it for yourself and if it suits your needs, then so be it....hehe

i have stuff that takes advantage of quad core. I just dont need 3.6ghz Q6600. Actually i dont need a Q6600. A 9500 x4 is perfect for me.

I havent said AMD are faster. Im just saying its good for the money for what most people need. then there are the "other" guys

yeah. One thing I want to do, is at least show people that the Phenom will compete in the high-end market.

I don't work for AMD, I'm just an AMD fan.

AMD chips are far more fun to overclock than Intel's....
You have to love the memory controller...
I would love to have one...
