Exclamation 8800GT Resolution problem

My monitor or graphics card seems to be stuffing up out of nowhere.

Whenever i try to adjust the monitors resolution it wont let me go past 1024x768. Ive got the latest drivers and im using a chimei 22" LCD panel.

This started after i installed SP1, not sure if this is common but i did a search and i couldn't find anything

Cheers,

So the steps are:

1. Download drivers
2. Download Drivercleaner
3. Install Drivercleaner
4. Remove drivers via control panel
3. Do not reboot
4. Run Drivercleaner and select all graphic card choices from the list and remove.
5. Reboot Pc
6. Install latest drivers you downloaded

Drivercleaner

Latest offical Nvidia Drivers

^^ This is what I do regularly when testing drivers out for performance and it works 100%

Good luck

tried all that, still gives me the same problems

another thing to note is that when vista boots up the screen goes into standby. i turn the monitor off and on, the computer then makes the sound for when it recognises new hardware and the screen shows up at 800x600

so bloody confused, no idea were to go from here

the card is a 8800GT 512MB Galaxy HDMI

I have seen this problem with the LCD going into Stanby on my Glaxy 8800Gt too. It happens everytime I install a driver, the only way to fix this si to enable Remote desktop via safe mode then boot into the O/S and use a laptop or another desktop to remote in and install the driver.

You could also try and remove the monitor driver and let it auto detect.

EDIT: Use plug and play driver for the LCD.

Maybe try using a different monitor if you have access to one, if the problem persists then its most likely your video card, if the problem is fixed then its your monitor, could also try a different monitor cable. ie: dvi, vga, hdmi?

Hi, i had the exact same problem with my 8800gt with resolution not going past 1024x768 .. i tryed reinstall new drivers e.c.t didnt fix it so i found this web link and tryed what you said about using driver cleaner . i uninstall all nividea drivers on my computer then restarted and THEN set my resolution to 1650x1050 with no drivers on it let me do this. then i downloaded and installed the latest nividea drivers i got ( 175.16_geforce_winvista_32bit_ ) and now all is fine ( give it a try.. also after boot up if you get no signal message turn you monitor off then on again .

good luck seeya!

UPDATE!!

Since writing my last post i rebooted and I was back at sqaure 1 again with the low resolution 1024x768 and also monitor falling asleep upon reboot.

After spending 10 hours on this today i have FINALLY fixed my problem and rebooted mutiple times and played 3D Games and all on my native 1600x1200

SOLUTION
I found it in another forum that sometimes your LCD screen gets a power surge and sets your INPUT to Anolog instead of Digital. I have Veiwsonic LCD Monitor and to reset my monitor is to unplug it from any power for 10 minutes and then plug it back in.. after afew minutes i noted i could change resolution again
(hmmm... wish i tryed this before i tryed every nividea driver and change all my other hardware about and reinstalled 3x)

I hope this works for you guys as its taken me so many hours to crack this problem cos it really suxs but its working for me now.

Good luck.
