Nothing like extreme heat loads to really shine. this was back to back. AS5 both original and a new fresh install had the same results, quite simply unable to keep the CPU running.
2X the watts - 2X the delta temps

post updated

results not so good delta T (AS5 - ICD7) ~ -9ºC and that was the second attempt.

First attempt had the 85ºC BIOS temperature alarm going off!!! I think I put too much on and it turned into an insulator!!

I used less the second time but maybe the stock retention mechanism is just not up to the job...

I'll give it another go later.

Cheers

I added OCAU to the overall to see what it would look like. With the 160 user tests graphics are getting a little scrunched I will have to figure another way to format it.

I've updated my last post with some new results. 2 deg @ stock and 5 deg o/c improvement now instead of 2 deg worse after burn in. Will post o/c results too in a bit. I don't think i was there in that list.

Snoop wiggles averaged your result to -3.5 C and added to new chart. Playing around with formating so it's more readable.

Core3: 39c
Core4: 40c

100% Load:
Core1:79c
Core2:79c
Core3:72c
Core4:75c

IC7:
Idle:

Did you try warming the ICD7 up in hot water prior to application, I discussed this earlier and it makes it much easier to apply. It is very dense due to the high diamond ( @92%) loading, but this high density helps stop bake out and pump out, this helps to give much better results over a much longer period of time. So no need to re apply regularly to maintain performance like with the more highly viscous TIM's.
With the installation did you make sure you were getting good contact and pressure between the heatsink and the CPU. The warming of the ICD 7 will also help with this.

Yeah, have to agree that warming the thing up helps a lot. Stick it in a small plastic bag or something (sandwich bag works great) and immerse in some hot water for a min or 2, and it'll come out a lot smoother.

When trouble shooting results our experience from our contact and pressure testing most see a result out of the gate.

The remaining with the exception of a couple of samples were determined to be either a contact or pressure problem. Pressure over 50lbs. + lapping the IHS were the obvious combination for best results

The contact and pressure tests pretty well dovetail with most general forum trouble shooting recommendations for heat sink problems where a user posts "my temps are high" which usually follows with the most common responses on hardware fixes " Try a remount", "Tighten the screws", "try lapping" etc. these issues are subtle and most users instinctively understand that key performance requires high pressure and good contact.

Performance issues are common can be sometimes non obvious they can push the limits of patience of the best mechanics.

Sorry for the late results, been putting off stripping the laptop till I had the spare time.

Processor: Intel Centrino Duo T7200 2.00GHz undervolted running at idle 998MHz 0.9500v, 100%load 1996MHz 1.0875v, stock cooler, loaded using Intel Thermal Analysis Tool, temps by core temp 0.99.3

Ambient temp for both tests: 21c

Stock thermal sticky pad thingy:

Idle temps after 5 minutes:
Core 1: 35c
Core 2: 38c

Load temps after 100% for 5 minutes:
Core 1: 86c
Core 2: 86c

ICD7 thermal compund:

Idle temps after 5 minutes:
Core 1: 37c
Core 2: 38c

Load temps after 100% for 5 minutes:
Core 1: 85c
Core 2: 86c

I'll see if temps decrease over time. Thanks for the sample!
