Default 8RDA+ with digital speakers, easy cheap solution :)

Hey guys bought my 8RDA+ yesterday. I am running BA735 digital speakers that use a 3.5mm mono SPDIF jack and wanted to use it on my 8RDA+.

I was going to buy the add on card but after looking at it I realised it has no components on it apart from the optical plug and RCA plug. So for $40 it was pretty damn expensive

So I wired up my speakers straight to the motherboard and it is working great !!!

All you have to do is wire up the SPDIF_OUT pin and the GND pin of the SPDIF header to your speakers.

I used an old CD Audio cable to plug into the header. The thick black one is ground and the red one is SPDIF_OUT. Then just wired it onto a Female mono 3.5 jack so the speakers can plug into it. Will mount it onto a PCI bracket thing later today

Anyway couldn't see this discussed previosly and thought it might come in handy to someone. Sorry if I am stating the obvious

What an excellent idea, good work! Sure beats paying the extra for one!

I would have happily paid $40 if it was worth it. But all it is, is a card with a couple of RCA and optical ports straight to the header. This cost me 50 cents to make and It looks pretty professional mounted on one of my PCI covers.

i love the ghetto mods too. just cause not more than 200mm away is one of the most technologically advanced products that humans can create (cpu) doesn't mean you can't go ghetto and solder some wires together to save coin.

Was thinking of doing this if I were to get an 8RDA+, as I have the BA735's with digital only, and couldn't see $40 as reasonable for the extra ports.
