Default ATI Shimmering/Rolling line problem.

Hi,

Who else has had the ATI shimmering/rolling line problem? Got any way to fix it???

Go here for a good read.

Basically I am left running 1024x768 on a 19" Monitor now .

i am having the same problem. Until now i thought it was my monitor slowly dieing. I will try a few of the solutions sugested on the link you provided.
Can't try them now cause i am at work, but when i get home i'll try them and get back to you.

I am hopeing the cause isn't overclocking the non pro to pro speeds with an updated BIOS.
Fingers crossed huh!!

Cheers
Joel

Wink

Yeah well it won't be from overclocking. It is the cards themselves and their ability to resist EMI.

I have gotten around it atm and just running 1600x1200@75hz on my 19" and 1024x768@85hz on my 15".

Old games i will run 1600 since they will run pretty good, but with full AA and AF and high details Unreal 2 and UT2003 seem to not run that well :P. So i will put them at 1280x1024 (don't notice much in direct 3d games, but open gl is crazy.)

Ive only ever really noticed what youre talking about when the refresh rate is run at 60hz. BF1942 had a similar problem to this, had to get some fix to force it to let me select higher refreshes to get rid of it.

It is the video card either gettting dirty power and picking up interferance down the power or it is getting to much EMI from something. This causes the card to display wavy/shimmering/rolling lines on the side of the display and looks really really bad. IT doesn't do it at all resoulutions but on some it does it a lot. Some ppl can fix it by using the DVI-VGA adapter it did not help for me. Then they also try turning off DCC and setting the resoultion themselves, using powerstrip and making up different resoultions, putting feriate around the power cable that is going to your card.

I have not tried the last one yet, but so far the only thing i can do to get around it is to run my monitor at 1600x1200. I sent ATI an email yesterday morning, and I just checked my mail this morning and I got a reply from ATI CS in Canada sending me a RMA request form. They know about the problem and most ppl's cards they just replace.

I am not able to replace it since I dont have all the stuff that came with it, nor do I have a reciept and its had its shim removed and AS3 applied.

I've had this for the last few days.

Solved it by connecting all my case fans to other power leads inside the PC - leaving only the Radeon 9700/PRO connected to the lead it's hooked up to.

You need a good quality PSU, and clean power on the floppy-connector used by the card - having fans on the same cable seems to make the power a bit "dirty", causing problems for the card.

1152x864 @ 85Hz for me on my 19" monitor, no worries.

Yes but what if i have all the fans turned off using my fanbus? mine is currently on the cable that has my HDD's.

I will try this arvo since im installing some different fans into my case.

Cheers

games i run 1280 @ 75hz and it's not noticeable, though on my desktop i run the same but noticeable sometimes, i tried everything for about 2 months that i could think of, with no success in that time, everything in the system has changed but still the same problem so i don't have a clue whats causing it.

and yeah telstra deserve to rot in h3ll they took away my unlimited cable after sticking with em for 2 years, *******
