Default Cheap way to get a 4GB card.

I found this link in Fred Miranda on how to extract a 4GB microdrive from a Creative MuVo. Sounds good! I'm in the market for a MuVo ... anyone know where I can find one?

I read the same thing on dpreview. I don't need a 4Gb drive but it just shows you the sillyness of some retail pricing.

Presumably you could replace the 4gb microdrive with a sold-state card, too

That 4GB Hitachi Microdrive is unfortunately a rather slow performer, according to Rob Galbraith's CF database. The max card to computer transfer speed is 3965 KB/sec. The fastest CF card (Sandisk Extreme 1GB) managed 9542 KB/sec.

Solid state cards are also less fragile than those microdrives.

So ... half the speed, four times the capacity, and only about 20% more money (the Sandisk retails for about $550, the MuVo $660) ... I guess it's your call. Personally i'd rather have speed over capacity

I'm the opposite. In my 300d, it's the internal buffer memory that is the limiting factor on the speed on the camera. 4 pics in quick succession is the limit no matter which card is used. I'd bet that many camera's CF controllers couldn't even use all the bandwidth available from a 9MBps card.
You WOULD really notice the speed dif. when D/Ling using a USB2 card reader, but that process isn't exactly time critical.

You're only really going to notice the difference if you've got a Nikon D2H, or a Canon EOS-1D. And how many of us have a camera in that league?

Here's another follow-up post to the original thread in Fred Miranda. This time they include a link to update the firmware on your MuVo. Link.

I disagree. You would notice the speed difference when you want to review photos.

For those who are still following the thread, I have found a review of the card on Luminous-Landscapes.

If you have some way to get things over here from the US like a mail redirection service- Buy.com has the muvo 4gb for less than US$200 - and there's a $15 off voucher for new customers at the moment.

So thats roughly Aus $240 +shipping.

Not bad for a 4gb microdrive and a whole lot better than the aus prices.
