for the condensor i hacked up an old condensor out of a air conditioner.
its just a tad bigger that a 120mm fan. to make sure it didnt leak i place it into a bucket of water and pressure tested it to 300PSI. Click to view full-sized image! Hosted by UGBox Image Store ok this is the compressor im using. when its at its coldest temp it is using about 218w. its out of a fridge/freezer, its a r12 comrpessor about a 1/6 HP compressor Click to view full-sized image! i will be starting with about 7.5 foot of 0.026 cap tube.
i will be using a copper spun domestic filture drier for refrigerant i will be using r290 propane, it has a boiling temperature of about-42C. i am baseing my direct die block on this design. except mine will be a 2 layer design. Click to view full-sized image! Hosted by UGBox Image Store what i will do its cut two of these paper out and glue them on the block. one i will drill the white area the other i will drill the red area Click to view full-sized image! Hosted by UGBox Image Store this is what im using for refrigerant i have 2 bottles one you use on the BBQ with a adaptor i got from bunnings and a hose which i cut one end off and placed a schraider valve in there, the other a camping gas bottle. both work great Click to view full-sized image! and finally my home made vacuum pump.
its out of a 8500BTU air conditioner. i reclaimed the r22 and keep that for a rainy day. i might later on try a mix of r290 and r22 to see how that goes. basically all you need out of a air conditioner is the run capacitor and the compressor. i have a schraider valve on both the discharge and the suction line. i can use it to vacuum the systems and pressure test stuff. i have 2 cpus to test it with.
one a locked barton XP2500 and a unlocked barton xp2500, this one is the better oc of the two but it really generates a lot of heat. best so far oc is about 2550 to 2600MHZ except i currently dont have the cooling capacity to run high vcores. |

and finally the system all up and running
not bad for a 1/6 compressor hey. all i need to do now is insulate the computer from condensation and do a final sanding of the direct die block then i can do some benching finally Click to view full-sized image! Hosted by UGBox Image Store Click to view full-sized image! Hosted by UGBox Image Store Click to view full-sized image! Hosted by UGBox Image Store Click to view full-sized image! [url=http://imagestore. this morning i added some more insulatotion and a tag of gas. it performed much better, gets to temp way quicker infact this time it went -49.6C then LLLLLLL this temperature gauge has reached its max. well this is sorta depressing not not so much. these are only unloaded temps and im sure that they wondt be this good once under load. Kayl,
Any ideas from where to get a small condensor from, I need one? I know you made yours your self, but I don't have the tools. -SP

Silver_Platinum sorry not really sure thats why i make them too expensive to buy
but im sur if you got a 5,000btu air conditioner and used the condensor out of that would be ok for a load i used a 80w tec under a 50mmx50mmxx25mm block of copper it managed to keep at -33c with the tec as the load, then without the load it idled at -48C Click to view full-sized image! i had a go at insulating the direct die block, i used roof gutter sealant and some 17mm thick foam.
for the back i used neoprene and a coffee cup coaster as back plate, i hope to use another coaster as the top hold down just got to wait for the silicone to dry. getto style all the way Click to view full-sized image! Hosted by UGBox Image Store |
