Default Project Dolphin

I've recently come across this little beauty.

Project Dolphin is a tiny app (61kb download) that sits in your system tray and counts how many keystrokes you make.

It then takes this info and uploads it to their server, via a "Pulse" so that you can compare who types more with everyone. It's got a nice little algorithm so that you can't just open up notepad, leave something heavy on your keyboard and walk away, racking up keystrokes. It doesn't use your spare cpu cycles, and you can really rack up a heap playing CS

It's all for research, and the coolest thing is the team setup, competing with other teams and such. Anyone interested in setting up, and joining Team OCAU for Project Dolphin?

I must admit, I went over to the page and it looks quite interesting.

However, I do have a small issue with monitoring keystrokes, especially when it comes to important stuff I access that requires passwords, internet banking etc. I'm assuming this project only monitors how many times a key is pressed, and not what letter it is specifically.

Be interesting to see what kind of progress this project makes tho, I'm sure there will be a few people willing to give it a go.

To research what? How to make a better keyboard?

Sounds pretty useless to me.

no idea what the research is for, i just read from the webpage

the point for most people who do it is to compare the amount of typing done with friends/rivals etc, but then again - why not?

i'm the same as you lombers but i'll quote this directly from the privacy policy:

What it is guaranteed:

Pulse does not record, collect, or transmit to this server or any other destination:
-which keys the user types, with exception to the analysis of the very last key hit, in order to decide if it is a key that "counts" as a key being hit (edit: as in making sure its not shift or the same letter 40 times etc)

-the contents of the user's hard drive or any other attached or internal or external storage device that may hold any type of data

-anything on the user's screen

Hey thats cool I'm running it now. And it only knows when you hit a character on your keyboard and counts it, it doesn't actully log the keys in anyway even thought people want to be able to see how many times they press a certain key.

But the client has a few bugs at the moment and there a a fuck load of cheaters but a new version which will get rid of these bugs is going to be released soon it seems and the stats will probly be reset as well because of the amount of cheaters.

Tense it doesn't use any CPU (well uses very little) it just counts how much you type on the keyboard. But i might post something when they release the new version when most of the cheaters will be gone and they hopefully reset the stats.
