Exclamation Battlefield 1942 Tweaks, Fixes, Hints and Tips Read this First!

First off, Unfortunately Some find it 'cool' to distribute non-official/working patches. Watch out for blood-patches! There's one around, which steals your cdkey and distributes it to whomever wants a CD-Key for his... illegal version.

So please people, don't download anything you don't trust. Onto the Tweaks and Fixes.

First off upgrading to 512mb ram if you havn't already is highly recomended as this has solved alot of problems with lag, stuttering, droping to the desktop etc etc. Do a Defrag and Scandisk to also make sure your hdd is running as fast as possible.

If the Game Doesn't Run

Step 1
Make sure you have the latest video and sound card drivers.

Step 2
Go and find a file called VideoDefault.con in your Settings Directory under Battlefield1942 open it with notepad and change this line renderer.allowAllRefreshRates 0 from 0 to 1 and save and close. This will now allow all refresh rates in the game.

Sound Problems
From the "Sound" menu you can try to lower your audio quality by checking the 22khz checkbox. Also test with lowering the number of channels used to 24 or 16 or try using hardware acceleration if your card supports it.

Video Problems
First off goto your console by pressing the tilda key ~ and type console.showfps 1 this will then show the fps up the top left. press F8 key to hide or bring back the top console to show the fps.

If you have a low frames per second lower your graphics to 800x600x16bit and select medium detail.

Some People have also have problems with video and the only to get the game to work was to change there monitor drivers to Super VGA 1280x768 for example.

Tips and Guides
Console Commands

If you do all the settings above this should pretty much remove lag, stuttering and most of the comon problems people are having with the game.

If you stuff your system up doing any of the following above i take no responsibility.

Also if the game doesn't load, change your monitor drivers to "Super VGA 1280x768" or equivilant. Battlefield 1942 has alot of problems running on "Plug and Play" monitor drivers.

Cheers, I hope this helps.

That is due to the refresh rate problem, if you do the steps of editing the file above it will fix this.

There's a hell of a lot of difference going from a Athlon 900 with 256 SD-RAM to Athlon XP with 512 DDR-RAM, both times with a GeForce4 Ti4200

I used to be able to only just run it at 800x600x32 with a heap of lag at times, and now I'm running it at 1600x1200x32 @ high detail and it's very smooth.. however, I get some graphical glitches at times.. this might be because of the Detonator 40.41 drivers

Basically, my point is, it seems more to do with CPU/RAM then anything else.

There was a post on QGL forums recently about issues with Creative soundcards.

The thread suggested that if having a creative card . . . turning OFF hardware acceleration and sound to 22khz and 16 channels saw large improvments.

I personally have found that putting the sound to 11khz waved goodbye to any lag problems I ever had with the game. And it doesnt really sound bad anyway . . . apart from a few gliches now and then.

Hopefully patches see a remedy to this situation soon though

this might be worth a mention.

If you find that you are still having choppy FPS and you've tried everything, well do you run All Seeing Eye? I found that running the in game browser or gamespy is far better than ASE. Don't know why but it is, network settings probably.

Hope this might help someone

Dekka.

Well actually no. Because I did try all the steps of editing files/uninstalling/disabling refresh rate locking programs to no avail. The only thing that would solve it is by changing monitor drivers. It is most probably a thing to do with my set up however.

yeah i think major lag probs come from not having 512mb ram
i have 256 and my friend has 512 and basically the same system as me
loading times r way faster on his, although racking out the dosh to buy some more aint too easy

Mmmmmm we just rolled the m0f0 out & work...

Excellent game but certainly hoards the memory...
Only 256MB in our systems...

Runs heaps better on the 128MB Ti4200's than the GF3 Ti200's with 64MB...

Setting the sound down to 22KHz with H/W acceleration certainly help...

Running at 1024x768x32 atm...
Medium detail...
Averages around 60-80fps...

Single player with bots is a bit tedious though...

thought I'd add this to this topic as well since all the tips n hints are here -

I have the No-cd cure for retail copies of the game. Emphasis on the fact this post is dedicated to people with legit copies who are sick of hearing their cd drive constantly spinning.

Quote:
Well actually the idea is very easy. On connection BF:1942 does a CRC check on BF1942.exe in your Battlefield 1942 installation directory and sends this to the server. If the CRC Check does not match with what the server expects (for example you are using a cracked exe), then the server will disconnect you.

What the private server play patch does, is put a cracked BF1942.exe and *original* BF1942.org in your battlefield dir.
Now the code is patched so that the CRC check of BF1942.org is sent so you will be accepted by the server.

However the private server play patch by FLTDOX isn't cracked for no-cd. Thats what the gimpsRus server play no-cd does. That archive only includes a new bf1942.exe (which is also no-cd'd), so you will still need the bf1942.org from the FLTDOX update.

So to summarize:

Install BF:1942

Update to 1.1 ( download )

Install the FLTDOX Private Server play Patch ( download)

Install the server play no-cd ( download grubf1942pspcd.rar 14th Sept file date)

Thats all
the links to the files have been removed by myself but you can find what you need on GamecopyWorld. Just make sure you use the correct no-cd file. It has been modified since the earlier release one (12th sept file date I think).

I just connected to online servers and played with no cd in the drive
