Hi everyone,

Wanted to see if anyone has used the following memory in the Gen8 Microserver:

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/New-16GB-...w4shX4-us#rwid

Looks like the memory is made by a company called Xum

Wonder when the Gen10 will be released....32GB DD4 is enticing

EDIT: Here are the Quick Specs PDF for the Gen10:

Homeservershow now have a sub-forum with reviews and info on a beta unit.

http://homeservershow.com/forums/ind...server-gen-10/

Quote:
Some observations from the beta unit testing so far.

What is the same/similar?

Case is the same size, so It stacks with Gen8

Four swappable bays
Two Gigabit Ethernet ports
One internal USB port

What is new/different?
AMD X3421 SOC APU in my Beta unit. No socket, soldered to motherboard
http://www.amd.com/en/opteron
UEFI BIOS
32GB of memory max, two slots

Tray-less design for the 4 bay

No door for the drive bays, need to remove the front bezel to get to the drives

No iLo
No Intelligent Provisioning
No B120i
No microSD slot

Marvell 88SE9230 6Gb SATA controller 4 SATA ports on a SFF8087 for the 4 drive bay. Specs show a 5th SATA port, but we also found a 6th SATA port. Not sure if port 6 will make it into production
http://www.marvell.com/storage/syste...duct-Brief.pdf

Support for a SSD mounted in the ODD bay. User Guide shows SSD mount bracket for mounting a SSD in the ODD bay, but I did not get one with the Beta unit.

200w PS

Radeon 7 graphics with one VGA and two DP

Low noise

Ships with ClearOS

Guys got a bit of a weird issue. I was previously running Ubuntu Server 17.04 on a MicroSD card but wanted to move the install onto a SSD to have some more space. I went through the install and chose to install the Grub Installer onto a USB which was plugged into the internal usb slot but it didn't take.

Rebooting the server it just says attempting to boot from USB - No Operating system found.

Have tried a couple of USB drives and the MicroSD I was running before but no luck. Do the devices need to be formatted as anything in particular?

Thanks

EDIT: Got it sorted

I've found installing from a USB to be hit and miss....

Last time I installed using an image in ILO, worked first time.

Hoping someone can help. Recently purchased a HP P410i Raid Controller for use with my Microserver G8. I am tried to get the card and the HDDs passed through to a FreeNAS VM.

No matter what I do I can never see the drives. I have tried creating separate Raid 0 configs for each of the disks and also tried without having any volumes but still no luck.

Has anyone been able to successful pass disks attached to the controller through to a VM?
