How long should you cellar that one?
If i get one, i may as well cellar it to make the most of it.

The best before is 3 years from production date.

If I was really dilligent, i'd be waiting at least 2 years in.

3 months is a little fresh for a 10% quad. (which is where mine currently is)

You know the St Bernardus is now more Westvleteren than the real thing?

Westies now use Westmalle yeast and StB's use the Westie yeast from back when they brewed the beer for them.

Be careful, there's very mixed views/results on aging quads. I've experienced a good and a bad westie (1 that was fresh was delicious, the next one at 2 years not so much and a 3yo that was pretty underwhelming too). Same happened with the ABT 12.

Probably not even worthy of this thread. But the local had a special on some brewdog stuff. Id heard good things, so I picked up some Dead Pony Club Session IPA and some Elvis Juice IPA.

I had high hopes for the Elvis Juice, but damn, tastes like lolly water. Meanwhile the dead pony club is fantastic, one of my new favs.

Dead Pony is great, and seems to be fairly regularly in stock at the local First Choice. Elvis Juice appeared when everyone was chucking grapefruit juice into their IPAs for some reason...there's some brilliant examples but it's probably not one of them.

I finally got around to drinking the Sierra Nevada Cherry Choc Stout. It had a thick creamy head and my guess is the barley was roasted to a darker level than I am familiar with in other stouts which brought along nice dark chocolate/cocoa powder tones along with added bitterness, but in a good way. Very smooth an easy to drink. At 8.5% it's almost in imperial stout territory.

Despite the name, there was no distinct cherry flavour that I was expecting to pop out at me. I detected a few minor wafts of cherry as I was drinking but I would have liked if there was more to make it a more unique brew. Compared to the Sierra Nevada Narwhal, this is in a different league, and doesn't suffer from the strange aftertaste of the Narwhal which I still can't put my finger on what it actually is.

The downside is the price. It's an excellent stout but if I recall I think I paid $32 for the bottle (~750mL). It's to be expected for limited run craft beer imported from the US to Aus, but not sure I could justify the cost again when I start putting it up against all the amazing craft beers we have here for a fraction of the price. Then again, every now and then it's good to spoil yourself and see what the rest of the beer world is doing.
