only if you want to use a car head unit and a car amp. OP will be using a home theatre amp, 240v.

Hiya again people i was wondering if you guys could give me your opinion on this amplifier for the speakers i havent found one for the subwoofer yet its the Pioneer VSX518 and the VSX817S both under $350 the 817S is 7.1 but the 518 is 5.1 the 518 has 95W per channel vs 90W on the 817S also i was wondering it says on Pioneers website that it has a 192Khz/24Bit DAC and 96Khz/24Bit DD Decoder so would i be bottlenecking an Asus Xonar Essence with this Amp or is that 96Khz normal?
If the VSX518 wont bottleneck the card i think that is the way ill go for now unless somone can convince me otherwise i will probably use Coaxial as that is the only connection you can use AFIK but any opinions much appreciated .

96khz is normal wont be an issue for you. FYI: using car audio speakers are fine in home theater, as some people have said they tend to be a little stiffer (dependent on who made them/price factor) The cheaper ones are made from cheaper stuff that tends to be firmer yet better quality, focal, morel, dynaudios are all pretty close to the same thing as their HT counterparts, I have built and had great sucess with many car audio speaker setups, the only thing to watch is that you dont go overloading your 240v amp, if the amp is only rated to handle 8ohm and you go chucking on 4 or 2 ohm loads your gona do some damage, generaly most HT amps/receivers are "ok" with a 4ohm load. As for car subs, these can be fantastic, again you get what you pay for so if your buying a cheap ass car sub to put in to your HT setup dont expect it to sound like a B&W or any thing. Also you do need to get a lowpass filtered amp (like the jaycar sub amps) to power this seperate from your receiver/amp, Box is a must in this as with bookshelf speakers, get this wrong and no matter what speaker/sub your using its going to sound like poo... Building your boxes will be more of a pain in the ass than choosing your speakers, If you are buying speakers then I would sudgest sticking away from car audio speakers and picking up some, peerless, vifa or scan-speak drivers that are designed for home audio, there not really that expensive how ever you will need to source xovers for them seperately. Enjoy the journy, I'm currently building a set of HT boxes to house a set of Morel splits and 8" rockford fosgate subs and a rear set consisting of 6" MBQuarts, all car audio speakers and have proven them selves to kick ass in a HT setup already i'm just trying to get better box's/sound now. |

Thanks for that info just wondering scince the car speakers from Jaycar are 4Ohm and that Amp i showed from Pioneer is supposed to take 8Ohms is there a problem?
Also how would i go getting Pioneer car Speakers/Subs are they any better than the Jaycar Response range as i know that Pioneer are very reputable? And about the Sub amplifier... you will probably lol at this question but can i hook a computer PSU upto it scince its 12VDC no 240VAC if i got one with enough power on a the 12V rail would that work and i still need to find out witch one is the best and when i make the box can/should i bolt the Amp onto the side of the box i dont mind seeing cables and metal shit everywere?

As far as the Sub in concerned. You are by far better off getting a 240v sub amp, If you do want to run a car amp then yes you can run them from a computer PSU, keep in mind that on the 12v rail a good PC PSU will provide about a max of 20amp so your sub amp will suffer if it tries to draw any more than this (All monoblocks will pull more than that if turned up.) |

mann sounds like a pretty sweet base to build the audio for a car
i don't know about you.. but logically, they sell car and home theater audio as separate products for a reason generally, car audio only has to produce quality sound in a) an area probably <1/4 the size of a standard bedroom b) project sound in a stage with a REALLY REALLY weird shape, and funky objects in the way (ie seats) ie, car audio is designed to produce quality sound in a messy, small area HT audio is a big open area not to mention, a sub in a car 95% of the time is in the boot there's a lot of difference between a sub in a box.. in a slightly larger box.. producing bass in a completely separate third box and a sub producing bass from a box into a MUCH larger box. ED: i dont have much in the way of a HT system (Z-5500's w/onboard) but i have about $1600 worth of in-car gear my friend's $800 for soundcard, audioengine A3 with the A8 sub, in comparison, especially considering the price, is absolutely solid. it doesn't do as well when you want to thunder out the bass, being a down facing 8" sub, but you can go as loud as you want and all the proper sounds are there in full clarity. (and i know if i swapped gear over in each situation, they'd sound terrible, more than likely) what you're doing, in my opinion, won't sound as good as A3+A8+sound card. (heck, if you wanted 5.1 that badly, you could just get another set of A3's and plug into the 'rear' port, unless i'm mistaken.. can't see why not though.. computer just sends out signals to where the drivers tell it to..) and even if you wanted to do something more custom setup, why not just grab some cheap 'real' HT gear, stuff comes up on the forums all the time, usualyl hundreds of dollars less than RRP. What about Center Channel. Even if he got a speaker, there would be no amp to power it as the amps would be internal in the A3s...

Lol.
Why not go 7.1, and plug 2 into each channel, making 14.1! (sort of!). Might cost a little, but hey, would be fun!
