Default optical cable

Hey ocau,

i'm in need of a optical cable for my PS3 to be in use with my fiio e17.

i went to harvey norman today, and they had a 1.5m optical cable ranging from $25 to $50.

i checked ebay and their $5

Does anyone know where i could walk in a store and pick one up in sydney for cheap?

Thanks

p.s i know hdmi has audio throughput but im using my Samsung S27A950D, which has no speakers.

Order from space hifi.com.au - you'll have it next day.

Otherwise, check out Capitol square, I'm pretty sure some of the PC shops there sell optical cables fairly cheap.

Yep, another vote for Spacehifi. He's on OCAU as well.

Have not used spacehifi, but you could check Selby Acoustics, they have a great range from cheap to expensive, of everything.

I grabbed one of eBay the other day. 0.5m long. Gold plated, metal housings, thick cable, sleeved, handmade. $4 delivered....

I know know how they even post it for that much...

Just out of interest why would the cable be "Gold plated" when it caries a optical signal and not an electrical signal?

Noooooooooo idea haha. It looks nice though, so I can't complain. Its just the very end.

I jsut look for a reasonably thick solid looking cable when buying off fleabay, hasn't failed me yet!

Spoiler below, highlight to read:
(plus it carries the 1's and 0's with greater accuracy....duh...)
