OF COURSE you're going to keep your current cards. Leaked stats show the RX580 show only a 4% performance improvement over the RX480.

Which isn't vega... it's an iterative update on the 480

580 is a mature 480 with only a slight bump in the Core clocks.

VEGA however is the HBM2 Behemoth to replace the Fury X

I think it depends mostly on how sensitive you are to it, plus how OC you are about anything that is immersion breaking.

I know heaps of people that swear they don't notice any, even when it's glaringly obvious to me. I know some people that notice it but just don't care, and then there's a few people like myself that simply can't stand it.

It is frustrating that having G-Sync modules included is so expensive and that FreeSync isn't up to scratch, because for me at least, it's the best thing to come to PC gaming since SSD's!

I still see AMD targeting bang for buck, even with Vega. That's fine for now, decent competition against the majority of the nVidia lineup would be great for now.

Completely off topic I'm sorry.... how the hell are you Bertross!!!

I've been lurking and reading for so many years with hardly a post (often too busy to log in and type anything unfortunately), might try to make some effort to contribute this year

I only ever noticed screen tearing when im looking for it. It generally only happens in cut scenes when its slow panning like a movie. But it doesnt really bother me and it happens rarely enough not to care about it.

Maybe mate, for what it's worth I got my first pair late last year pretty much just for computer use and reading. I really needed them, made a huge difference!

That's great news for you though, if you either don't notice or don't care, then there's no need to invest extra in a G-Sync or FreeSync setup.

haha, still here mate! I haven't posted much since PCPP died off because there's such a wealth of experience and knowledge on here already. I skim over posts a few times most days though.

I'm glad you're well mate, I'm doing well too thanks. I'm still on the same Steam account, I'll msg you next time I see you on

Your PC setup's looking good mate, you get to game much though?

Regardless of where Vega lands in competition, HBM2 is a wonderful thing.

For me it was timing. I'm about to pickup anchor and jump to another country so buying now would be a bad time. I made a decision and got a 6700k instead of Ryzen. Had it been out before Christmas I'd be running a Ryzen system.

Not likely, at least with the full vega chip and heres why. Raja ssid vega was just under 500mm^2(ill try dig that up). GP102 is 471mm^2. GP104 is 314mm^2

For AMD to release such a large chip that only offers performance at the level of a competitors product product which is 38% smaller would be disastrous.

The most recent example of an amd high end is the Fury X. At 596mm^2 on release it was slower than the 980ti by 14% at 1080p resolution, but only 2% at 2160p.

So not quite like for like performance, but it wasnt drastically under performing either.

So I believe there will have to be two versions of the vega chip. One which competes with the 1080ti/TitanXP and one which competes with the 1080/1070 mark.

Also, one of the best improvements in maxwell and then pascal was tile based rendering. Amd vega will having something similar in Draw Stream Binning Rasterizer.

I've been trawling the interwebs on night work and been reading some rumours that the Vega chips will be one 5% faster than a 1070, another 5% faster than a 1080 than the big beast 15% faster than a 1080ti. If that is true, sign me up

what were the claims around the last gen of ATi cards?

I hope they live up to expectations too, but they seem to have given in.

indeed, i got a FuryX on release, and it was horrible.

If vega is 15% faster then a 1080 Ti, may have to buy one..haha
