Might explain the 7700k price drops on NewEgg and Amazon for over 4 weeks now (only $20 or $30 but still, for intel chips, rare)
I might or might not be working within this industry

The announcement is pretty well covered, but really it will be like ever other series launch. Annoucement will come first, mobile SKUs (laptop CPUs) will come 2nd and than desktop SKUs will come last. The biggest thing really is the whole shift in numbers of cores on the mainstream platform, which do have people worried.

What?
This is contrary to almost every other leak out there.

There is already plenty of pics out there unannounced laptops running 8th gen mobile CPUs.

Every single gen launch I can remember there has been an initial announcement, followed by mobile series SKUs hitting the shelves first and than followed by desktop CPU (usually i7 and i5, than i3 and than Pentium / Celeron).

Show me said pics, your data is contradicting 3 months of leaks on /r/hardware on /r/intel - on this website, on wccftech, videocardz.com and hardforums.

Everyone has said "surprisingly intel are doing it backwards this time, S series (desktop) CPUs first, mobile chips in January - along with the "proper" chipset (Canonlake PCH "300 series" - ie: z390 vs the z270 rebadge to z370 coming in a week)

it's all cocked up because of Cannonlake [10nm] continual delay. 10nm process is clearly not going as planned.

I don't think there was originally an intention to release coffee lake for mobile , nor for coffeelake-S to drag so far into 2018. (just look at the refresh chipset name - Cannonlake 300 series, but being rolled out with Coffee lake CPU's. nice and confusing.

Happy?

5sec google search will find much more.

I've seen enough of this shit for 5 launches now. They just look at the Intel roadmap / training PPT and focus on the desktop related slides and overlook or not look at the mobile related stuff carefully.

Until games start using more then 4 threads you won't see much better then a 8700k for gaming for a long time.. 11% faster then 7700k per thread. And as it stands the 7700k is king per thread in gaming.

Hopefully 10nm brings some boosts though.

I would wait if I are you, more cores and a shrink. Normally the best time to buy is the first cpu released after a shrink, you'll find the subsequent architecture tweak revisions, rarely perform that much better than the original first shrink of the same process. (Your CPU is a great example of that)

Tldr: Intel seem to get it right, first time on a shrink.

When will 8700K hit the shelves? I know it was mentioned but they wont fit the current socket right? (LGA 1151-2)

Based on Coffee Lake being Q4 17, I'd be tipping Ice Lake is Q4 18...
