We used to get fried dim sims and potato scallops from the Bateman's Bay fish and chip shop.

I never got why it's called a potato scallop, it's a potato cake mate (atleast here in Vic).

Lived in Sydney for a few years and they looked at me weird when I asked for a potato cake at the local fish and chip shop. Mind you when I asked for the fish they also asked me if I wanted it cooked

Because the potatoes are scalloped (method of slicing) prior to being battered and deep fried.

been doing them every now and then on the bbq for years, probably the best way. deep fried steamed dimsims (yes you read right) are pretty good too

I had this first time I went to NSW, walked in said my order and they looked at me like a immigrant, my mate had to translate my Victorian fish shop language

For the record, Victoria is the only place that matters, and it is 100% a Potato cake, take ya girly scallops and fritters and shove it
