While they are slightly different, for this purpose they are close enough to be indistinguishable.

This is more heated that the SSM thread. Better watch out or Court Jester will come in and start talking about how deep frying vegetables for our own enjoyment is a slippery slope and will lead to people deep frying their cars or the Eiffel tower or worse this is how the third Reich started with by declaring a deep fried disk of potato can only truly be referred to as a potato cake.

PS. It's a potato cake you peanuts. I also grew up in Melbourne.

I haven't been to Victoria for some time, but I'll remember what they call it for next time.

Fish cakes are round. What shape is a potato cake? Round. So it's a potato cake.

Fried Fish is a a fillet not a bloody fish cake.

Otherwise that would be like me calling KFC a chicken cake. Geebers! lol

Potato scallops aren't round. (so they aren't potato cakes?)

Precisely. Fried fish is no more a fish cake than a fried battered slice of potato is a potato cake.

OP, you can get dim sims, bau, dumplings etc etc frozen at "NP Girrawheen Supermarket" (it used to be called Farmer Jacks). Thinking of you and your quest, I had a squizz at the freezer cabinets when I was in there today. They have a HUGE range of stuff, worth a look if you're ever over that way.

Years ago the fish and chip guy down the South Coast accidentally cooked me a chicken fillet (beaten flat) in batter instead of a fish fillet.

It was absolutely delicious and something everyone should try before they die.
