Sorry but this is totally wrong. The max fps might be the same but you get a much smoother experience with newer CPUs. I have tested this myself with a 980Ti in my rig, my mate's 2500k and my mate's 4790k.

Will I realistically notice a smoother experience if I'm not running full hd/ips panel/144hz or something like that though? I leave everything on high in settings with my current setup and I honestly don't notice any lag or stutter. Could be cause I have no comparison though so I've no idea when it is stuttering or having issue.

+1... bought mine on here for a pretty good deal at the time. Running 4.7ghz on air and it's been good for years. Thought of going to Kaby but may hold off one more gen.
