How does it go when using on public transport? I will probably be commuting next year, a total of 4 hours on the train per day, so it is important that I can use the computer during this time.

Do you find it is a desktop replacement? Or do you still have a desktop with a bigger screen and more grunt at home?

Also, what kind of battery life do you get? I know it depends on whether your just word processing or gaming or watching movies or whatever.

Cheers,
Jerry
I'll keep you posted on that one, still hasn't arrive yet :S

But I'd generally purchase two batteries when buying a laptop, just keep one spare in your bag if the other one runs flat. The CLEVO (Horize) I got from LogicalBlueOne has a maximum of 2 hours flat if running all applications on max, without dimming the screen etc etc. So having that extra battery would come in handy.

As for portability, I'll just have to wait and find out :P

With the power brick and spare battery, I hope you have a comfortable bag.
The weight adds up and it adds a lot of bulk.

I've bought myself separate carry case with all the added commodities. Back pack for my school stuff, and carry bag for my PC. But yeah, I agree with you there, the extra weight of the battery does add on a fair amount of carry weight overall.

At the end of the day, it just boils down to what the person wants to take with him to School/uni and how much weight he can cope with. Of course, taking a lot onto two different buses at 6 am in the morning just to get to Uni is quite crazy... Might need to consider an alternate method of transport. :S

13" Toshiba T130 is the perfect notebook for school/uni and is again on sale at MLN for $399

https://www.mln.com.au/bargainbuys/

i absolutely love mine (red) and although these have been around for quite some time, they still remain a very good value notebook, especially for its screen, and 8 hour battery.

when i bought mine at MLN last time it was at $399 i got a free battery as a bonus, taking my battery life out to approx 12 to 14 hours combined.

they say its battery is 8 hours, realistically its 7 hours, would be difficult to get 8 hours under normal every day use.

A good deal - but I think going by the posts SmolderinCorpse has made, his intent is to have it quite gaming capable with a very powerful GPU.

Bloody hell, I just realised I'm morphing into Glennpin - like second hand laptop dealers we are! Should open a used laptop shop for VIC/TAS for when we upgrade constantly I haven't added my 'spare' Alienware M11x R1 to the list below yet - it would be a cheap 2nd hand portable gaming option as can be had for less than $500. I got carried away and put a carbon fibre protective skin on mine! Then convinced the wife it needed a 120gb SSD. I think I have enough toys for now.

LOL no i am not a 2nd hand laptop dealer unfortunately, contrary to popular myth, i dont buy and sell new or 2nd hand laptops for re-sale to anyone, except on the odd occasion where a family member, or family friends might need one, in which case i might sell them one of my own family laptops if one is suitable, and i may buy another new or 2nd hand one to replace it with, hence why the laptops in my Sig sometimes change, however those laptops are actually my own personal family laptops, and i have not even listed my sons iMac or his new MBP.
