I have an extreme 9 with a 3930K.

I ported a corsair triple channel kit to this quad channel mobo, so even that should flash red lights. It has 8 sticks of ram installed, so not only is the memory all mixed up, they dont even match the kit configuration in the dimm slots or package.

It will boot at 2133Mhz but has lots of errors in memtest, the ram is only rated at 2000mhz.

So in bios i change 4 settings, 11-11-11-31. EVERYTHING else is on auto for memory settings including XMS 1.2 profile.
Memory runs at 1866Mhz 1.65v
Gets about 34GB/sec in sisoftware sandra. Passes memtest, prime95, IBT etc.

So try those timings after enabling XMS.

Make sure the ram is not OC ram - because intel limits the maximum speed of their RAM to a certain value, OC RAM usually runs at a higher voltage such as 1.65V. You want your VTT to be within .5V of the RAM voltage - and the more RAM slots you occupy the more VTT you may want to apply to get it to boot at hgiher frequencies. This usually doesn't occur in higher end processors such as the 3960X as they are higher binned and can handle higher ram speeds without the VTT bump, but as you move to midrange and below processors and to more slots/frequency the VTT needs to be pushed up to get stable. I had an i7 950 that would run fine with 3 slots of 4GB 2GHZ ram with no adjustments other than ram voltage 1.65V, but when I moved to 6 slots I needed to bump the vtt to 1.5 volts (i think) to get it to run at 1866MHz.

AsRock aren't the most dependable overclockers and usually fall short of the pack when compared to MSI, GIGABYTE or ASUS when it comes to overclocking and reliability, hence the limitations on RAM speeds and CPU overclocks (my core i7 950 could only hit 3.8GHz in an AsRock X58 extreme6, whereas in reviews it could hit 4.0ghz on other brands and again 3.8GHZ on the asrock board).

Use CPU-Z when you have a chance to check out the XMP profile of the memory in the memory tab by selecting the slots which the memory is in.

You can also try to select the profile in the bios, but when you do try to bump up the VTT until it is stable and look around for safe VTT voltages.

Cheers

You realise it's down to the CPU to run your RAM, right?
Your CPU is probably only rated to 1600MHz so anything above that is down to your skill and luck in overclocking, XMP or not.
