Default Kernel_data_inpage_error

On my parents computer an error randomly appears sometimes saying

Kernel_data_inpage_error

On load up sometimes it can't get past the motherboard screen.

I'd normally wipe the drive and do a fresh install but they don't me to.

Is there a way around this?
